3/4 ton gear ratio?

im buying a 79 3/4 ton for teh axles to put under mine when i get it all back toghther.
the truck came wiht a 292 6cylinder 3speed and a 205 t case..the guy im buying it from says he thinks they are 3.42 or 3.56 gears but he cant remember, my brother in law says with a 6 cylinder 4x4 3/4 ton they would have to be 4.56 or 4.10.. any one know off hand wich they might be either way its better than the 3.08 crap i have now.

thanks

Irecently picked up 3/4 ton axles for my truck a nd my 14blt. ff had 4.10 but i dont know what truck they came out of I just picked from a pile. I'm not sure about yours. I would say 4.10 because I think that most of them came with that gear. you can divide the # of ring gear teeth by the pinoin teeth or vice versa and figure it out that way. By the way does it have the removable pinoin? That would make it easy to count the pinion gears.

I'd bet they're 4.11's but could be 4.56

4.10s are most common, but 4.56s arent out of the question. 3.73s are extremely rare.

Hmm.... I have bought at least 4 corp-14 axles out of a junk yard and they were all 3.73's. Maybe it's a regional thing. I run 165 r70 16 tires (I might be off on the r70 part) and I really like that ratio with stock tires.
What is common? I suppose that 3.42 or 3.56 axles would be more widely acceptable in the midwest and such where you don't have as many hills to climb.
