Low oil pressure?

Hey guys, i have a 1972 chevy c/10 and lately its oil pressure has been very low, i'm pretty new to trucks and i'm not sure what could be causing this, it is extremely cold outside and i wasn't sure if that was a factor. Thanks guys

How low is PSI? What weight oil are you running?

Dave's got a point. Even multi-viscosity oils may not warm up
enough to flow correctly in very cold temperatures.
Is this just on start up or after the engines warm?

Re: Low oil pressure?

I'm just running regular 10w-30 engine oil, and sorry to sound naive or unintelligent. But on the gauge its stuck on L on start up and even when its warmed up and running down the road.

Re: Low oil pressure?

Try hooking up a copper line from the engine to the gauge. This might help.

Re: Low oil pressure?

high mileage old chevy engines dont have much oil pressure to speak of and last for very long times like that

Re: Low oil pressure?

it's probably the guage in most cases, I've had the same one since I got the truck and it has registered low the whole time. Two poorly built engines and now the good one I've put 10,000+ miles on, no difference.
