rear bumper brackets...?
I believe I have found a white sport rear bumper for my 70 gmc shortbox (although its 3 hours from me atleast a friend there can grab it...)
But I got my truck with no rear bumper on it. It also is missing the brackets. I've been looking around at brackets and they seem to have made different versions depending on if its shortbox, longbox, coil or leaf spring rearend... if I am seeing things correctly anyway...? But none of them specify what bumper the brackets fit... I would assume the old step style bumpers also have different mounts then the sport style I am wanting to put on? For reference, mine is a 1970 gmc shortbox with leaf spring rearend. Seems like my only real option may be to buy new so that I'm sure I can get the correct brackets(hopefully) as opposed to miss identifying a set of used ones off something I may someday stumble across? Although id rather have used, simply because if i bought new, those would be the only shiny new parts on the whole truck and they would look out of place on the patina covered beast. Any info on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: rear bumper brackets...?
You will need to buy 4x4 brackets, the leaf spring trucks use a different set than the more common coil trucks. Try Gmc pauls or classic heartbeat both are quality venders and can hook you up.

Re: rear bumper brackets...?
Just some added info:
The bumper of my 69 chevy with coils won't fit my 68 GMC with leaf springs.

Re: rear bumper brackets...?
It is the brackets. If you will do as I say you will be fine, but you will have about $75 invested .

Maybe you'll get lucky if you buy it and they will fit. But if they don't and you have a welder and oxy/acetylin torch to bend the metal brackets you should be okay otherwise you may be better off doing like 71 super says.

Re: rear bumper brackets...?
i get what you were saying. well the bumper i bought doesnt come with any brackets. they guy had just swapped from painted to chrome so he still needed them. so either i buy those brackets or i fab up and weld together some of my own. guess i'll see when i get the bumper.

Re: rear bumper brackets...?
some days i really hate people... the deal had been struck, the guy didnt have a problem waiting a couple days for my friend to be able to pick it up on sunday... then sunday comes around and my friend cant get ahold of him. i call a couple times and finally get a text back saying, oh i sold it yesterday... so guess im still on the hunt for a patinad white rear sport bumper. bummer.
and it happened twice to me in the same day, went to pick up a car i had agreed to purchase saturday night over the phone. made a plan to meet at 9am sunday. got there at 8:45(after waking the fiance and kids up early and having an hour drive) and someone else is just leaving on a test drive... wtf?! needless to say they bought it and i wasted a couple hours of my familys sunday. not like i was dickering on the price of either of those things. not like i said, i need to come look at it. i said "i'll take it" when can i pick it up?! |
