Gas Prices - Part 2
Thought would give this another try since the first one was LOCKED with the political references and innuendos. That thread made it to just a shade over two years and almost 238,000 views and 1,300 plus replies. Hope this one can stick around, please leave the political thoughts out of this and stick to the topic.
Our local prices for 87 octane corn squeezins yesterday: $3.29 per gallon Today: ??? Who knows, could be the same, could be a bit higher, not likely to be lower tho, Original post liz approved this thread,

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
Just finished a pretty good trip. On the coast here gas was 2.99 when we left. between here and Petit Jean Ark I was sorta (not a whole lot) surprised at all the difference. Between here, central MS, northern MS, Arkansas, north east Texas and central Louisiana prices ranged from 3.29 to 3.89. Even in the same sate, county to county changed a lot sometimes. Good thing mama's baby bus (Honda CR-V) does pretty good on mileage. 1400 miles over the weekend.

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
No ma'am.... that is for the cheapest self-serve no-name 87 octane in town.
Unless you count the bulk plant but you never know that price until the monthly statement comes.

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
It's called living in California. They tax gas here like nobody's business It's about $5.30 for 87 where I live too. I believe that there is about a $2.00 a gallon tax. Something like that. Subtract the tax and we're at $3.30 give or take.
I put 40 bucks of 91 in my little Porsche the other day. It's a very small car. You would think that would make a dent in it. Nope. 1/4 tank difference. Pretty soon it'll take 50 bucks to fill up your lawnmower. But not in California because they just banned gas mowers. You can't make this stuff up folks. I live it every day.

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
I hate this thread LOL. Seeing people complain about gas prices close to $3.00 depresses me. If someone starts an electricity price thread I will be sure to never look.

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
$3.59 in a small town on the Oregon Coast. Toledo.
I do consulting there. $4.20 where I live half way between Portland and Seattle. The difference is the same as new vehicles. Additional dealer mark up. I attribute it to the business consolidation that is crushing competition. Studies have proven; 1. Market concentration has risen. 2. Average markups have increased. 3. Average profits have increased. 4. The labor share of output has gone down. We used to have anti-trust laws. They are still there but not enforced. Cheers. |

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
This is an interesting recently written article related to the the cost of supplying fuel HERE
"My late father was a gasoline distributor. What ultimately drove my father out of business was mandates imposed by the EPA dealing with underground gasoline storage tanks."

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
I might feel a bit better in that thread. Our local public utility district and nearby hydro power = somewhat reasonable electric rates. There is a drought surcharge added though....

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
A drought surcharge?? What is that? That's a new one on me. Sounds like to me. Although I might be paying it too. I don't look closely at my bills. I don't need to hear the excuses for overcharging me. So I don't even look. Just like with gasoline. I just shut up and pay it. What else are you going to do.

Ours is hovering around 4.20 something. Seeing some of you fellas have been under three is crazy for us. I cant remember how long (possibly years) since Ive seen it under three bucks. Still not California bad though.

I hear ya CG....Diesel in Wenatchee is around $5.00 again....gas is similar to what you are paying on the west side.
The good thing is our electric rates are Energy Charge (0-39kW demand) 2.95’ per kWh. |

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
Quote:
Back to gas prices. I lost an old (but perfectly usable) commercial-grade chain saw by letting it sit too long with ethanol-tainted gas in it. Expensive lesson learned, I now buy ethanol-free gas (race fuel, they say) for all my small engines. Last stuff I bought was $8+ at the bulk plant in the city. I'm running low so I stopped by today for a couple more gallons. Place was closed up tighter than a drum. I called the number, yep, they no longer have a retail outlet there, but they say I can buy ethanol-free gas at the nearby saw shop. OK, I go there and find 5 gallon cans for $95 + tax, total nearly $102. That's over $20 per gallon! Thanks but no thanks. Maybe Google can tell me how to separate ethanol from gasoline. Meantime, I'll turn off the fuel supply & run 'em until they stop.... which is what I should have been doing anyway.
