58-59 GMC 1 ton Dually - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I came across what appears to be a 58 or 59 1 ton GMC dump bed truck the other day. It sits were it died in a barn yard. One fender and the hood may be ok, the rest of the sheet metal is toast. The grill has a 370 emblem. My understanding is that the engine is lock or blown. The part that is interesting to me is the 5 speed tranny with PTO output and the split shift rear end. Is this a standard setup or is it unusual?

it may be larger than a one ton. They usually did'nt put spliters in anything under 1.5 or 2.5 ton trucks.

I think it would be cool to build a one ton Dually
witha fleetside bed with some of the Fiber glass replacement fenders added on the sides like a Factory Dual wheel pickup
Would take a little fitting but would be worth it

There's a guy running around my town in a dark green 1-ton dually 58 or 59 GMC, real nice looking truck. I'll have to keep the digi cam in the car and post a pic or two of it.

The GVW plate is still intack, but I did not write the numbers down. I was looking for a manufacture date.

Did it look like this? This is a 58 370 from stovebolt.com

Or did it have the same style cab as a pickup?

A 370 is bigger than a one ton......

My uncle has this one he might sell, near Edmonton AB.....

It is a 55 GMC 370.

It was more of a pickup cab. It had four headlight and the hood was indented in stead of domed. The marker lights were mounted close to the front of the fenders and the cab had two marker lights on top. No running board. The gas tank is behind the seat and there must be an aux tank because I found the switch valve under the edge of the seat. The side vents were cabled to the right of the steering wheel. There were a bunch of other knobs with the name plates worn off.

I may be able to get a picture and the GVW numbers and post them. I just thought the old truck was interesting and I really like the looks of the mid to late fifties trucks.
