1970 K...5...Years Running!

I have a 1970 K5 Blazer that I have been working on for the last 5 years as of this february. I bought it for my 16th Birthday and wanted to do a frame off restoration so that for half the price of a new truck I could restore and have a classic "new" truck. I turned 21 on the 9th and have finaly been able to drive my blazer and get to enjoy it!

So as my favorite part of this site aside from the unpresidented ammount of knowladge is to watch peoples progress when I am not able to work on my truck I have finaly decited to start my own build thread.

So fist off is what the K5 looked like when I first picked it up from the previous owner.

Re: 1970 K...5...Year Running!

There was and engine fire in the past. My dad is a mechanic and we bothe though it was time for me to rebuild my first engine. we pulled it and brought it in to have it boiled out and found out first hand how little a previous owner can know about their own vehicle. All of the badges said "350" and the owner said it was the original engine, but the block turned out to be a 307. Luckily we had another 350 out of my brothers truck that had spun a bearing so we brough that one in instead.

After dissassembling the entire thing I decided to have the frame powder coated. I cant find realy good pics of the frame but here is the new engine and trans going onto the frame.

Re: 1970 K...5...Year Running!

The gold blazer ended up having more rust in it than I had bargined for so I found another blazer striped down for cheep. It wasent perfict by any streach but was better than the gold one and it came with a single wall top. I was also able to rob some sheet metal from the beast before scraping it. The biggest part was the windsheild header. I dont think it had ever had the tpo removed and was rust free which was great because about every 3" you could poke your finger into the header of the new blazer.

The next steps where to cut out the rust and weld in new sheet metal. While I was in highschool I took a year of welding. I realy lucked out here because half way through the year my teacher let me bring the body to school and work on it durring class some days and stay after to work on it too. Through out this time I replaced both floor pans, rockers inner and outer front anrd rear pillars rear quarter pannels, windsheild frame and one rear bed cornner.
