My new 66 Chevy project "white trash"

I am new to the sight and wanted to share my new build.
I work at a small Restoration shop and we do everything from every nut and bolt builds to routine maintenance.
One of our customers that we where doing a satin black 67 Lincoln for also had a little 66 truck. He brought the little truck in for a clutch and for us to finish up the AC system. While it was there we also put a new radiator in it.
He drove it for a couple months and the motor laid down on him.Well it spit a rod out the side I guess I should say.
Long story short he is about to move out of the country for a year and did not want to fix it.So I bought it for 1300.00 bucks.I had another 250 laying around so I gave it a new set of gaskets and a paint job then detailed the engine bay a little and had fun doing it I cut the rust out and just plated over the holes,I did not try to fit the plates I just layed them over and tacked them in.Lol when i was done I just cleared everything. I have been driving it for a couple of weeks now and love it.
Next up I am going to do a little body work I don't want it perfect but better than what it is now and give it a new coat of satin white and do the top in a heavy red flake.

Re: My new 66 Chevy project "white trash"

well I have been working on this thing for the last few weeks.
I wish i would have left it alone and had fun with it but i always feel that way.Lol...
I have been jumping around working on different things .I should have started at one end and worked to the other but what ever.
Anyway the little truck is rough to tell you the truth. But i want a beater so it will work.
Here are a few pics. of what i have had to work with so far and what I ended up with.

Re: My new 66 Chevy project "white trash"

Almost finished. All that's left is to paint the front bumper, steering wheel and glove box. Then the bed floor. But as it is we can drive it if we want.

I must say i have learned 2 things with this project.

1st Never panel paint a whole vehicle.
If you do not have time or room to do it all at once just don't do it.I had to work around the schedule at work for the booth so I painted it in pieces never again.I am considering after the 1st of the year taking the truck to my old high school and painting it all at once.

2Nd I hate flat paint.
It is a pain to clean and it never lays out the same twice.
If I paint it after the 1st I am going gloss.

Diggin' it! That Flake is Pimpin'! I never understood why someone would go to all the trouble to block and prep and mask and then shoot flat paint. Hell shiny shiny is the payoff! Cool little truck, Man!

I was thinking about doing both those things the same way you did, other than going satin instead of flat. I just don't have the room to paint it all at once on my budget. I was wondering how hard it would be to keep clean when greasy finger prints get on it. I'm leaning towards gloss white now.

What about shooting a clear gloss on your truck?

I can wet sand and clear over and it should be fine.
But i am thinking I want to go a pearl white. I have a gallon of the base for the caddi pearl so I will just have to buy the peal carrier, pearl and clear. And I want to go with the PPG 2002 clear this time. Its what i used on the top and I really like how it Lays out and how it cuts and buffs.
