Why the "Split window" on the 9500? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

the 66-78 M/H series truck seem to have one piece windshields except for the 9500 series. Why is that ? is it the expected greater torque was giving problems with body twist and windows popping ? are the split windows curved or are they flat glass ?

just curious.

Good question.

The 7500's and smaller trucks have 1-Piece and all the 9500's (H, J & MH) have 2-Piece.

Why, I'm not really sure, lol.

One of the benefits though, is if one side gets damaged or broken, you won't need to change the other.

I wonder if it was just not what people expected in trucks of that size, seems like it was the norm for a OTR truck to have a split window.

Everything looks good on that truck... I mean GREAT! I have a t-shirt from the ATHS National Convention in Springfield, MO with that blue COE dumper on it.

I wonder if it's as simple as being a sales feature. Something to suggest the 9500s hundreds were right up there with the rest of the heavys. A way to separate them out from the lighter trucks GM was mostly known for

I think your right about the sales feature/big rig look.

You know the price on that black truck was only $7,500, but I don't have a place to store it.

What a bargain? But I know what you mean. A few years ago there was a similar GMC dump truck for the same amount. It was gorgeous! Same thing, got to have a palce to keep it that nice. I love my pickup truck, but that is nuts you can get a classic truck like that black one for about 1/2 of what that 50th Ann. SWB is going for on Ebay right now. It's a cool little truck, but really just a tired old truck that somebody lowered and put new tires on

on one of the H/J series discussions we have had someone mentioned that the rear window was sometimes left out, but you could still see the "indent" where it should go .... I have noticed the same panel lines beside the rear window.... were these ever used as a "deluxe cab" or 5 window option? they are pretty noticeable in this photo.

I believe the 2 extra Windows were Options.

I have noticed them mostly on single axle local "Day" Tractors.

Here is that BE-A-UTIFUL dump I mentioned that when sold the owner was asking $7,500 for. The steal of the century in my book. If there was any way possible I would have snagged that faster than a loose chicken at the Perdue plant

I don't know where the Perdue Plant is, But I got the chicken part. That is one purty truck.

A few years ago, one just like it (not as clean) sold at Mt Home, Ar at an auction. It was black all over, but had belonged to the park service. Really low mileage, and clean, I think it brought around $18,000. It had a Detroit and 13 spd.

I know Arkansas is big in the chicken industry. Perdue is on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and their main office/plant is in Salisbury, MD
