How to change gauge cluster bulbs?

Does the cluster have to come out or can the bulbs be changed from reaching under the dash?

Most can be changed by reaching up behind the dash, look for black twist out sockets.

Re: How to change gauge cluster bulbs?

Yeah, if you get up behind there you can change most from behind the cluster without removing it. I've got a left turn signal light that needs to be changed and I grabbed the bulb listed as the correct part, but it does not feel like it seats properly. I've gotten it to stay inside the receptacle, but when i hit the left turn signal the light won't flash. I'm wondering if it needs to be seated behind to gauge cluster to ground it and get it to work?

Re: How to change gauge cluster bulbs?

From what I've read most of the gauges should be the 194 style bulbs. I ordered some 7-LED replacements off of ebay that should be here any day.

Re: How to change gauge cluster bulbs?

let us know how you like the LED replacements, maybe throw up some pics?
how much did they set you back?
Even with the bulbs in place I've never liked how dim the display has been at night.

The shipping was more than the bulbs. I got 10 for $3. I'll let you know if they are any good. I'm with you on the dim stock display.

Yea. I bought 5 packs of the 194's at Walmart. For like $1.95 for each. Each pack brings 2.

Re: How to change gauge cluster bulbs?

The bulbs have to be seated for a good ground.
There is one bulb holder connected to a fiber optic cable for steering columns with the fiber optic indicators...
To make it brighter you can paint the inner tins white or reflective silver.
