Duetz powered?
Time is getting near to replace the 292 in my 1980 c30 dump. I may be able to get a 5 cyl duetz. What issues am I looking at to slide this baby in? Will it work with the transmission (4 speed)? Power? I pull a skid loader and a few ton of gravel rather often

Re: Duetz powered?
i love me a deutz air cooler engine .
if you can fab it up and make an adapter plate and parts you can do it . i have seen a few rat rod things with them mounted in them on the street on youtube . you just need to make sure to feed it LOTS of air flow to keep it cool . i use to run a dx110 6 cyl non turbo and 4x4 she was a animal in the field . 5 speed with 3 speed aux box and reverse . 15 forward and 5 reverse was fun .

Re: Duetz powered?
After I pull the radiator I don't think airflow will be an issue. Trans is main concern

I've a 71 Deutz 3006,31hp tractor.
It's a 2 cylinder, air cooled.Never a problem with it! Deutz makes very good engines and equipment! Mike. |

Re: Duetz powered?
neat info on the older stuff . the engine just got a longer block and crank shaft for more cylinders added . if you have a pair of dead tractors with a dead cylinder take and swap a good top end on and go .

Re: Duetz powered?
Consider weight, length, height, and bell-housing/flywheel compatibility.
I know a man in Kalona, Iowa who was installing Deutz engines in pickups back in the 80's. I don't know what he did for tranny's, but it must have worked out somehow. He had a whole photo album of his conversions. |

Re: Duetz powered?
Abut 20 yrs ago a bud & I bought a job at an old gravel pit. There was an old D8 there & a Euclid drag line w/ no boom. The D8 had two rods protruding from it.
I took the Deutz from the drag line & installed it into the D8. Sure looked funny pushing that aggregate around w/ no radiator up front! Oh yeah that Deutz was a V10! |
