I was wanting to see if anyone has painted their factory steering wheel to a different color. If so how did you do it, how good did it look, and how well did the paint stay on after use? I have a brown steering wheel that had some minor cracks in it. I have now filled the cracks in with steering wheel epoxy and was wanting to paint it black. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I did that to my 67 gmc 3 years ago & still looks good I use rustoluem primer and paint

you could probably get jb weld or simialar cheaper than 'steering wheel epoxy'

Used JBWeld on my wheel, and then painted it when I painted my truck. Looks Great!!!

I had great luck painting mine with rustoleum as well. I used black gloss

Paint it just like you would any other part of the truck. Before they started making them in color, they were all painted.

I painted a factory '68 wheel; it was originally grey-painted red and I redid it. I put 3 coats of clear on it to give some wear-ability to the surface, looked good and still does.

Thanks for the input everyone! I thought there would be some long multi step procedure, but it is actually straight forward.

Just clean it really well before painting.I used steel wool and scotch brite on mine.Then I hung it up and sprayed it with brake cleaner.When it dried,I shot 3 coats of Rustoleum grey.I do have the rim wrapped with a leather cover but the spokes have stayed nice for over 5 years.
