What driveshaft? Rear crossmember?
I have a 70 long bed c10. I put a 454 and a 4l80 in it. I am doing away with the 2 piece shaft. I was wondering if guys are getting them out of other vehicles or building custom. I was hoping to snag one out of something. Also are there any issues with the rear crossmember with clearance? What is everyone doing there. Thanks

Is the truck lowered? Leaf or coil springs? How much difference is there in the tail shaft ending location compared to the stock transmission. In other words is the 454 mounted in the factory location?
A search of the suspension section should also yield the answer you need.

From what ive seen most guys are just getting a new 1. It takes time to find 1 that is close n length and will still need to b changed to fit the rear end yoke if coming from a newer model. Not to mention u will have 2 re balance it all. As far as lowering u need 2 know how far down if any u are going. U may want 2 look n 2 a rear dropped crossmember. Several company's make them. As u drop the truck, the driveshaft moves up n the cut out of the cross member. Drop 2 much with the factory 1 and u will b n2 it.

if you go with a 1 piece driveshaft does it matter witch end you put the slip yoke on front or rear? I am going thur the same problem. Ended up going with a 2 piece

A long bed with a one piece drive shaft is going to be one long drive shaft. On my LS/4L60E swapped short box the drive shaft is 55 1/8" from the center line of the u-joints.
A good drive shaft shop will calculate the length by your top rpm and then tell you the required safe diameter. Mine is 3.5". If your truck is lowered or to be lowered watch the trailing arm cross member clearance. Not that you may need it but I upgraded to 1350 u-joints when I had mine built. IIRC my brand new steel drive shaft, new yokes, new solid u-joints tube and balancing was just a touch under $400. |

picked up my new 2 piece drive shaft for a 68 454 with 4l80e trans and 12 bolt.
$968.67 I almost pasted out. Where are you buying those $400. drive shafts?

Mine was a one piece. Drive shaft shop is in Waite Park MN. MN Drive line. I supplied the trans slip yoke which was about $90. Keep in mind a two piece has twice the number of yokes, one more u-joint and they have to balance two tubes. Not saying it makes sense.
