Project: Change of Plans

So I bought my 62 with the intensions of making it a 4x4 and putting around in the snow with it. Well... After sneaking around the forum for a little then joining, plans have changed. Now I'm building the truck to be a crusier. 2wd with bags and all the goodies. So heres what Ive got so far, Frame is ready for new suspension, has 73-87 front member ready to go. It has the 1 1/4" rotors so I can swap to 6 lug front with out having to get new drop spindles yet. The new plan is to bag the front with stock arms, and build a custom rear notch with a new rear half of the x member. Planning on 7" bags up front and 8" bags in rear. Valves will be a sweet setup which I will talk about later.
Im going to try and get this thing to lay frame or as close as I can get to it before needing a drop member front. Well, heres some pics of what Ive got done so far.

The night I bought it.

New fender and body prep.

New door and hood and more body prep.

Little rust in top of driver door jamb.

Rest of driver side door jamb looks good.

And the newest thing is my frame.

Let me know what y'all think. And I'll try to keep it updated as I get things done. Thanks. Mike.

Re: Project: Change of Plans

Little update big progress.
I got the frame cleaned up and under the truck. I got all the coils pulled and ready for bags in the front.

Also had to post a pic of Daks one of my many lizards picking out his favorite parts from the Truck Stop catalog.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks. Mike.

Re: Project: Change of Plans

I think that is a pretty large lizard.
I think there are a lot of 1950s trucks in the background of your frame photo.

On a serious note though, you have a truck, a plan, and some motivation...man nothing can stop you now!!

Welcome to the site, looks like you know what you are going to do, hope you continue to share with us, these builds are as fun to watch as they are to do IMO.

Keep us posted, I will check this one out !!

Thanks guys. And that lizard is just a baby, he will be about 24" long and close to 1lb full grown. More like Sunflower here she is a she btw.

Thanks for words of encouragement. The only thing that can slow me down is money. Lol. Thanks again. Mike.

Re: Project: Change of Plans

So got more updates. I picked up a 250 from a 71 C10. Should be a good runner, we'll see.

Front suspension should be done this weekend. Then on the the back. Thanks for looking. Mike.

Yeah they can bite but its pretty rare that they do if they have been handled.

Re: Project: Change of Plans

So got an update not a whole lot of progress but it's some.

Got the front mached up. Still need drop spindles, 6 lug rotors and I need to cut and re-cup my lowers.

And today I got the rear PB notches installed and just about welded home but I ran out of wire. Now I need to start working on my PB "replica" 3" drop trailing arms. I love Nates quality so far from my notch but I'm not dropping 500 plus shipping for 2 links. I can build basically the same thing for around 250-300. That and I have had bad luck with "Johnny Joints" on my 4x4 endeavors. So Ill use some 1 1/4" Heims and I can fab up my own frame side adjustable trailing arm mounts. I just hope I can figure out the correct angle of the bend in the tube.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks. Mike

Re: Project: Change of Plans

Good to see a post from you again.
Some guys post even if they have not had time to get anything done on their builds, and some guys fade away and you never seem to hear from them again.
You made some great progress!!!
Hope you can get more posted soon!
