Distributor Location ?

Buying a 1967 C-10 and one of the pictures is of the engine bay. The distributor is on the front and it's tilted towards the driver side. The alt is a high mount on the passenger side. I've never seen a Chevy V8 with a front mount from the factory. Is it a Chevy motor and if not what motors are front mount and tilted to the right when looking at it? Ford's aren't like that and I believe that Chryslers are tilted to the left. Thoughts?

Thanks for the help guys. Now just to figure out what Buick engine it is. I would guess a 350.....need to figure out how it's hooked up to a factory 4 in the floor too. I didn't think that Chevy bellhousing matched the BOP.

As johnny cash said, with a little bit o' help from an A-dapter kit, unless they also swapped in a BOP trans.

It's not a Pontiac 350... This is the Pontiac small block... Distributor in back.

Pretty sure that is a 350. The 455s were wider. Buick-Olds-Pontiac bellhousings are kind of hard to find, but they are out there. Not sure if the bellhousing is a bolt-on to an original HD 4-sp trans, but I think it could be.

Well, he said it's a 4-in-the-floor, so I'm going to assume it's a 4 speed manual, in which case all Muncie, Saginaw, and BorgWarner transmissions will work with the BOP bellhousing.

My suggestion is for the OP to scope around some Buick forums to see how to find out which engine he has. The thing about BOP engines is that none of them made either a small block or big block. If I recall, though, one of them had a slightly taller deck on their 455 and the intakes wouldn't interchange.

301 and 326 pontiac blocks are smaller, but 350-455 block are the same size. Not familiar with "BO" motors so I cant comment.

Haha it sure is. It got posted on Dallas Craigslist, the number is different as well. The lady said that she needed to sell it to help put a down payment on a new house. Last I heard the lady said she was driving it to Mesquite to her daughters place to sell it easier.

Actually, the 326 was developed (for '63 Tempest) via the 389 architecture, but grew into the 350, for '68. You may recall that before the "little" V8, the Tempest used a 194.5CID slant 4. It was half of a 389. The 389 grew into the 421. In '67, Pontiac brought out the 400, and the 428, which put on some cubes and became the 455. I've seen 455's replace 326's, but with a different transmission, in some cases. The early GTO's had 3 or 4-speed manuals, but only 2-speed automatics.

Buick had the 215 Fireball aluminum V8, until the 300 came out in '64. That engine grew into the 340, then the 350. The "Nailhead" V8 began in '52, but was gone with the 66's. A new 400, followed by a 455, came out for '67. Olds had the same aluminum V8 as Buick....literally. It was replaced by a 330 in '64, which became the 350. The 394 Olds engine was replaced for '67 with a 400 and then the 455.

And the engine in question is not an Olds 350/455 for sure as I have the 455 with the dizzy in the rear of intake.

Nope Olds the dist is in the rear like Chevy and Pontiac. It is a Buick, I could tell if is a 350 or 430/455 with a better picture.

Pontiac there is no outside different in dimensions (deck height is the same in all pontiacs except the crappy 301 pontiac). Olds the deck height is taller in the engines larger than 400 (not the later 403 found in Trans Ams). Buicks on the other hand do have a completely different engine for the 350 and the 430/455. Nothing from a 430/455 will fit onto the 350 except the carburator.

The Pontiac 326 uses the same deck height as all the other pontiacs, 301 is the only odd deck height in Pontiacs. Inncorrect on the buick 350 and 455 information too. I have owned two Buicks, both 350s and dreamed about converting to 430 or 455.

There is no such thing as a 350 nailhead Buick, the Buick engine family was redone in 1967 to 340 then 350 along with the 430 big block, which were the only two sizes of Buick small block. The Buick small block is really a modern V6 Buick with 2 extra cylinders, even the timing covers for the small block Buick interchanges from 1967 350 to the 1986 231 (3.8) V6 Buick.

The SM420 and the Muncie/Saginaw car trans use a smaller pilot hole in the bellhousing. The SM465 which is the most common truck 4 speed uses a larger pilot hole in the bellhousing. It is possible to open the hole up in the BOP bellhousing, but probably a different trans. Saginaw 4 speed most likely? But anything goes.
