1947 Chevrolet 3100

Hello,
New to this forum..
I recently bought a 1947 1/2 ton 5 window Chevrolet truck.
My question is if anyone knows if there is actual difference in overall measurements Length and high of the truck between 1947 1/2 ton and 1947 1/2 ton Thriftmaster ?? or - and what this ,,Thriftmaster'' means ?

do you have any pics? It is my understanding that those are one and the same thing. I have never seen a 5 window '47, not to say they don't exist, just I have not seen them. My '47 was the base model and it still said thriftmaster on the emblem.

Thriftmaster is the marketing name for the engine. IIRC the 261 available in 2 ton trucks was sold as the Loadmaster.

You might have a non-47 cab on there - at the very least those are 52-54 doors because they have the vent windows and push button handles.

You have a 1947 second series 5 window Chevrolet Thriftmaster. It should have a gas fill between the cab and bed on the right side. Thriftmaster was used much like Apache and Silverado are. Your Serial number should start wit EP if its a 47 half ton. The doors as stated are later.

The gas tank is under the bed, gas filler nose in between cab and rear fender..exiting on side of the bed.

So it might be a 47 truck but with later doors, am I understanding it right?
If i buy regular 47 door windows and trim, would i be able to replace it so it looks like 47 door from the outside?

The window mechanism and tracks are different, the glass is different the door latching and handle are different. It would be easier to get 47 to 50 doors. Not 51's as they are only for 51.

Not in the operation but there were different color needles in different year trucks, I don't know what year has what color but I believe 47 should have a white needle. Some of the knobs were also different color between years. Gauge mounting lugs can also be different on a 47. I do know first had that 50 gauges don't bolt in to a 47 dash without changing the back cover

54 and 55.1 were a different gauge in appearance and mounting.

Does it have a single shackle assembly pivot supporting the rear of the cab? If so it is a '47 cab. That uses two rubber bumper pads out towards the cab corners. That was replaced a few years later with rear shackles at the cab corners.

I am going to check that out soon.. Not sure what to look for and where exactly but this single shackle assembly I should be able to find it behind the seat ??
47' was the only year that had the single shackle?

In my opinion, first off, we are all different. I can't say this enough, we are all different and we have different needs. I am talking personally here, ME personally, I loath the idea. I don't see a vintage truck anymore when it's done. In my opinion it's not a 1950 Chevy pickup with an S-10 Frame under it, it's a 1990 S-10 with a customized body to look like a 1950 Chevy pickup.

I just hate to see it because sooooooo often it's done by people who don't know that they could be driving the stock truck or a modified stock frame just fine, they don't need anything more, it's not a big deal to drive the stock truck with the drum brakes and all every day, it's soooooooooo over thought. "Can't drive with drum brakes on the modern highway" I want to SCREAM.....as I drive my stone stock 1959 Rambler every single day.
