Re: Some pics of my Blazer

I just finished the drivetrain swap (TBI350,700R4, 3/4ton diffs, 31gal. gas tank) There won't be updates for a while. The Blazer is the daily driver right now, can't do bodywork until spring when I can drive my car again. Have to get to work somehow. Still debating on the color. The light blue on the dash is original, but I kinda like the dark blue too. I'm thinking maybe the light blue only mettalic. Also not sure about the wheels, I got them cheap from a buddy, not my first choice if I was buying new, but I needed 8-lug wheels to fit the new diffs. Can't decide if I should go ahead and cut the front center caps for the hubs or wait for new wheels and sell these. Bigger tires are definately on the most wanted list. 235/85/R16's belong on a dually, not a 4x4!

Looks Good! Keep up the great work! I'd hold off on cutting the caps and sell the wheels in the spring or sumthing...

Nice looking ride... Since you asked and since it is not my money I would go with different rims and I agree with you bigger tires. Just keep the current set as your winter rims and tires.

Nice project, I really like the engine swap. How was it to put in the 31 gallon tank? J.

Re: Some pics of my Blazer

The Tank swap was pretty straight forward. Got a new tank for a 87-91 Blazer, Sending unit and pump from a '87 'Burban (junkyard). Had to remove the rear crossmember. Made some new crossmembers front and back (straps go front to back, not side to side like the stock tank) Made some spacers out of 1-1/2" C-chanel to go between the tank flange and the frame. If you have a body lift you won't need this. The stock straps for the truck actually fit the new tank! (the new tank is as long as the stock one is wide) The filler is on the wrong side, so I removed it (it's soldered in) ,cut a new hole and soldered it in the new hole, then patched the old hole with some sheetmetal and soldered it all up. I had a receiver hitch behind the liscence plate, but I had to remove it because it hit the new tank. I will need to to some fabbing to get it to fit again.

Re: Some pics of my Blazer

Thanks for the input, whatever color I choose I will do the whole thing (including dash) unlike the PO. and it will have a '67 front clip. Anyone notice the side trim? That's not factory '72, it's actually the same trim found on 88-98 silverado's. The stock trim came in a box with the truck and had been mangled by the PO . It's a little narrower, but it'll do until i can afford real trim.

Chris, thanks for the info on the tank. Maybe I'll leave it on that side and make a dual fill tank. J.

Re: Some pics of my Blazer

If you're not concerned too much about departure angles and ground clearance you can also install the tank backwards. I almost did it that way but it just didn't look right. Plus the filler neck was reallly close to the body mount.

Good looking K5. When you did the front axle, what year was it and how did you address the rubber brake lines. I'm doing axles in my 70 K5 from a 78 3/4ton (Dana 44 front).

Re: Some pics of my Blazer

I used the front diff from a '77. It was a direct bolt in. The stock '72 brake lines on the truck bolted right up to the '77 calipers. The only thing I had to fab was a mount for the swaybar. Or if you don't want a swaybar, the stock '72 spring plates should fit. Gotta love GM interchangeability

Re: Some pics of my Blazer

sweet ride! if you do the blue dark or metalic are you keeping the tan or white strip on the bottem? i am guessing not if you go with the stock color. anyways looks really sweet!!! some fatter more agressive tires would be nice and fun in the snow. and i would sell those and not keep them as winter ones since what is the fun of having agressive tires not in the snow? Also don't cut them if your planning on resale. looking great!!!

Re: Some pics of my Blazer

Here's a pic of the '70 Jimmy I just sold. It's on a shortened '97 3/4 ton chassis complete with Vortec 350/4L80E/241/ 14bsf and whatever front diff the IFS chevy's have. I drove it for 2 years, put 30,000 miles on it and got $4000 more than what I paid for it. I didn't build it so it didn't really feel like it was mine.

Re: Some pics of my Blazer

It was a really nice truck, but it had some "issues" I didn't want to deal with. Plus it was heavy (5600 lbs.) Sure rode alot nicer than my leaf sprung '72. When I bought that one, I was looking for a Blazer/Jimmy to fix up, then I saw that one and had to have it.

Re: Some pics of my Blazer

I've seen your Blazer a couple of times and looks like a great starting point, but I think it may have been the previous owner. I don't think it had the bigger diffs and those wheels on it.

Come spring, if you come by any of the cruises look for my '72 'burb(medium olive) and introduce yourself.

Re: Some pics of my Blazer

72LoBurb, I think I've seen you around a few cruise night too, usually in the summer I'm cruzin' the Beaumont though. I just completed the diff swap about a month ago (I've owned the truck for over a year now) So you may have seen me driving around. It used to have Rallye wheels with bald 33's and smoked alot. Fortunately with the new EFI motor I've gotten it to quit smoking

Re: Some pics of my Blazer

Beaumont? What does it look like? I've probably seen it and may have even talked to you. I'm a chrome dome in the summer.

I'll be doing a motor swap in the spring, the 'burb's engine started making some strange(bad) noises just before I parked it. Depending on overtime, maybe a crate motor and possibly TBI, that I have out of my old '90 'burb.

Have you been to WhiteOaks on 137ave/122st(A&W), I sometimes sit with a '72 Blazer 2wd(light brown). He's the guy you wanna know if your redoing your Blazer; he owns Super Service Truck Parts.
