tire size/gear ratio

I was looking at a 1998 chevy 4x4 truck, with 3.73 gears and a posi rear end.
If i get this truck i want to put a 6 inch lift on it with 35 inch tires. Would 3.73 gears handle 35 inch tires, and would you have much power to the rear wheels?

I'd say go at least 4.10s. I have 35s w/ 4.10s and 4.56s, no OD but the 4.10s seem best all around.

Welcome to the board!

I know quite a few people running those year Chevy's with 6" lifts and 35's with the 3.73 gears. They say it runs really well. But if you're gonna tow alot, wheel alot, or do lots and lots of city driving 4.10 or 4.56 gears would be better. If you drive alot on the highway, stick with the 3.73's and they'll work fine.

Is the truck a good deal? I agree 4.10 would be a nice gear for 35's but 3.73's probably wouldn't be very annoying.

(I've seen a lot of 4x4's with 33's and lame 3.08 gears and that truck would still be better.)

Since it's almost always cheaper to buy a truck with the gears you like, try finding one with the 4.10's.

the guy wants $9000/obo for the truck, and it is a pretty decent truck. It has a towing package and a 350 vortex. Changing the gears would cost more money, thats why i wondered if you could run 35 inch tires on them. Thanks for the input
