Carrier Bearing

I believe that my carrier bearing is bad (i can wiggle the drive shaft around in it). where can i pick one of these up at? Autozone/Advance show a different type of mount than i have. the ones they show mount on either side but mine has two bolts in the centre. what is the difference in these two types? and how do you go about changing this?

Just as you said, they mount either in a line or on either side.

you have two different sizes of shafts, 1.3 or 1.8 i believe. Any auto parts store will sell them

Re: Carrier Bearing

Napa Carries them. Advanced auto does not have the correct one. I just replaced mine last week. there is a good thread on this that I found last week.
Here it is.

Might as well replace the u joint since you are going to have to remove it anyways.

Re: Carrier Bearing

the difference is because some are coil spring rear ends and some are leaf spring rears. when you remove the drive shaft and separate the two shafts you will need to take an open end wrench and grind it to be much thinner to get in between the drive shaft and the u joint.

also when the assembly comes apart you will or should have two dust shields. one on either side of that bearing. they are also important because they help keep the bearing inside the rubber cushion surrounding it. If they are not there, the movement of the drive shaft forward and backward may push the bearing out of the rubber cushion. this is more likely to occure in colder northern climates when the rubber becomes very stiff and inflexable.
