This came zip-tied to my firewall and I don't have a factory assembly manual yet (cheapest place to get one?). Can anyone identify this for me? Thanks!

That is kinda hard to see, could you get a closer picture by chance?? Looks like some sort of switch to me from what I can tell.

You can pick up a Chilton's or Haynes manual at your local auto parts store for around $19.99.

Well what it looks like to me is a factory T-400 kick down switch and bracket. Just not located where it is sopposed to be. Someone could have wire tied it there so they wouldn't loose it..

Yes! It is missing the rubber seal on the end though. Thank you good sir! Now, can anyone tell me whether I want to use the kickdown? It does have a TH-400 trans, but the kickdown is missing on my other vehicles th-400 and I have noticed no ill effects.

A working kickdown switch makes flooring it a little more pleasant.

When you floor it with a working kickdown switch the transmission automatically downshifts if your already rolling. I think it also holds first gear longer if starting out from a stop, but don't quote me on that.

My tranny downshifts without a kickdown when I floor it. I thought this was the point of the vacuum modulator?

Don't know how it could do that without a functioning kickdown. Are you sure you still have a TH400 installed in the truck?

This is in my chevelle. Might have a shift kit in it? Definitely TH-400 though.

A TH400 will kick down from 3 to 2 when you go wide open throttle regardles of the kickdown. However, the kick down switch will let it drop to first if the speed isn't too high.
If that was all it did, then I'd say screw it. however, it permits holding first a bit longer when nailing it from a stand still, and it also increases the line pressure and helps with clutch life.
