Vin # locations?

I'm going to be building a 70's vintage truck from a rolling frame and parts from many other trucks. Does anyone know where to look on the frame, tranny or transfer case for the vin number which might help me in a title search and/or getting a proper title when my build is finished. This truck will have original tranny, transfer case and frame and all else will be parted from other trucks.

Thanks

Re: Vin # locations?

On top of the frame on the drivers side near the engine there will be a shortened VIN, mine was covered with dirt so it was hard to find but that would be a good spot to start...

Re: Vin # locations?

The only vin locations is on the plate on the driver's side door pillar, the glove compartment door and a partial on the frame.

Normally, at least in Missouri, the truck is registered by the vin plate number on the pillar.

Re: Vin # locations?

My 69 has the partial VIN stamped in 2 places on top of the left frame rail. One near the steering gear. The other under the cab. Of course, it also has the complete VIN on the SPID and VIN tag riveted to the driver's side door pillar.

Re: Vin # locations?

The complete VIN# on my 72 SB was in 2 locations on the driver side frame rail - one by the engine as was mentioned earlier and the other on top of the rail under the cab.
