how does the ammeter work?

I have been wondering why mine doesnt work here lately. I everything works as far as the gauges but thats because the cluster harness is plugged in right? Does the ammeter work different because i noticed it has tw0 prongs on the back of it. HELP me out.

As I recall there is a little dinky P.I.T.A. fuse in a small rubber connector behind the battery. I want to say it is in a brown wire.

It has been a while since I replaced it though.

Ammeter works in series to voltage. That's why you have two wires -incoming 12vdc and outgoing 12vdc.

Mine would not work on my 68. First I made sure this ground clip was installed. I also replaced the engine to cab ground strap behind the drivers side head, installed a ground strap from engine to frame, cab to frame, bed to frame and one on radiator support. Basically you want to create a good ground back to negative battery. I got rid of a lot of all my gremlins, head lights work better and ammeter works great now.
