Well I was putting in a new turn signal switch and when I went to put the steering wheel back on, I stripped the shaft while trying to bolt it back on. I looked on here and saw there were a couple others with the same issue and had some trouble trying to re thread it and or buying a new nut for it. So can I just replace the shaft itself? if so how do I take it out? Thanks, and I'll post a pic of it.

As cheap as I may sound, I want to replace as little as possible, I'm a poor college student lol. Can I just replace the stripped shaft? and how?

When the steering wheel is on and seated, how much good thread is sticking out?

I had that happen before. I took a file to it to get it a tiny bit smaller, then re-threaded and put on a nut and washer.

There is barely any good threads sticking out when the wheel is on.
There are less good then there is bad sticking out.

That file idea is a good one.

You just need to get it small enough for the next size down die to fit it. Then carefully thread it, install new nut and washer.

Yeah, rethreading would be the cheapest and easiest thing to do. If you go this route be sure and wrap a cloth around the column to protect it from metal filings. I would even cover the floor board with newspaper.
