c notch question.

I'm sure this has been asked before, I saw a few other posts, bit does anyone have a definitive answer as to how much you can drop the rear without a c notch?

Welding is a lot like sex, you don't have to be great with the rod as long as you thoroughly prep the surface and your good at grinding

Re: c notch question.

You can do a 5" drop without having to c-notch. I will recommend a c-notch if you plan to haul things, to allow for a little extra clearance. I believe a few guys have done a 6" without a notch.

Re: c notch question.

When I bought my truck the previous owner lowered it about 6 inches by heating 2 inch lowering coils. it was the worst riding thing i had ever been in. I would use lowering blocks for 2 inches or so and then get 3 inch lowing springs if you are going to stick at 5 inches... A decent pair of shocks and it will still be bearable to ride in.

Not likely, I have an 01 sierra for that. I mostly want to cruise/road race it

Re: c notch question.

I needed a notch with 5" drop springs, truck bottomed out routinely. Each truck will vary, there is no definitive answer. Install the drop springs and if you find a c notch is in order, then go ahead and install one as well.

Re: c notch question.

I lowered my longbed with 2.5" spindles in the front and 4" springs in the rear... ECE said 4" springs on a longbed would give me about 5" and I would say they were right. I also added shock relocaters and an adjustable track bar and I did a rear sway bar as well.

While you have it all apart I suggest new bushings in the trailing arms as well.

All of this in my truck made for a very nice ride and much better handling, loaded or empty.
I didn't do a notch and I have about 2.5" of travel before I get to the stock bump stops which I could trim and gain another inch or so.

Re: c notch question.

Since you have the bed off (according to your build thread), I would definitely do it. Not too big of a task when you have a top view of the frame. I have a lwb rolling chassis with ECE 4/6 drop. I can't see what the actual ride height is yet without the weight of the bed on it, but I only plan on building this truck once. Better safe than sorry!

Re: c notch question.

4.5"/6.25" here. No c-notch. Rear bump stops cut 1/2 way. Rear has never bottomed out.

Re: c notch question.

Same here with 5/7 drop no c-notch. I removed the bump stop and have about 3.5-4" of frame clearance. I think a fleetside bed is heavier than a stepper so that may factor in to it also. Play truck only for me so no heavy loads.

I have 275/60/15 all around. Unfortunately, the front tire to touch the inner fender now and then over a bump. I'd go 255's in the front next time.

What spindles are you using, it looms like your front tires are way out there? In the pic it looks like the rears tuck up nicely, but the fronts are almost out of the fender.
