Dana 44 Questions
I have a front Dana 44 off of a 1978 GMC 3/4-ton 4WD with 3.73 gears. I just purchased a 1988 Blazer with 2.73 gears. I already have a set of 3.73 gears to put in the rear 10-bolt but only have one set. I would like to put the Dana 44 on the front that already have 3.73 gears but has 8 lug hubs. The outer hubs on the 44 are the same style used on the 10-bolt front axles on the later 3/4-tons, is it possible to replace the 8 lug hubs with the 6 lug hubs on the Blazer? Has anyone done that?
I have done the opposite conversion where I turned a 6 lug 10-bolt into an 8 lug 10-bolt for use on a 3/4-ton to replace a blown front axle on a 3/4-ton, was wondering if the same can be done on the later Dana 44's. |

Re: Dana 44 Questions
Everything from the knuckles out will interchange. I took a set of big hubs from a mid 70s 44 and put them on a 10 bolt.....
