Radiator retainer brackets - is this correct? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Here are some pictures of the radiator retainer brackets. They are the originals, but they don't look like they are fitting correctly to me. It looks like the U shaped portion on the bottom of the brackets isn't lined up correctly and is too flat, allowing the radiator to sit too far towards the engine. I know the radiator was replaced at one point, so there's no telling what the shop did to make the new radiator fit. The truck came from the factory with a heavy duty radiator according to the SPID. 70 C-10, 307, 2 barrel, no A/C. Sorry for the cruddy pics!

Looks to me like they are the wrong brackets. Looks like a four core radiator and three core brackets... That's probably why they put the rubber spacers between the shroud and the brackets.

I have a 4 core radiator on mine. The 3 core radiator brackets are shorter than the 4 core by quite a bit. That doesn't look right for some reason, some one had to do some work on that. The shroud is supposed to but right up against the brackets with no bushings of any kind.

Looks like someone cut off the front part of the U channel that the rubber sits in...don't know why the shroud is sitting so far back. Probably 4 core mounts with a 2 core radiator

This looks more like a factory truck radaitor than the top one does to me.

j-dogg's radiator looks like the one in my friends camaro. it may be a car one but you would think that a car radiator would not be as tall as a truck one. does it look solid on the bottom mounts too?

You have a set of 3 row brackets holding a 4 row radiator. It is probably the same on the bottom. Change to 4 row brackets and bushings and your problem will be solved. WES

Thanks for all the help! I had a chance to go pull one of the brackets today and jaros44sr got it right: they cut the front and back of the U-channel off in order to make the radiator they got fit, instead of actually getting the correct radiator and doing it the correct way. Awesome! If you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself.

New (and correct) 3-core radiator is on its way to replace this one. Looks like I'll be getting new brackets too.
