'68 hubcaps help

I'm trying to repaint some '68 chromed hubcaps, and I'm looking for pics of the factory paint scheme. Were they painted the same as this pic of '68 hubcaps? (Except chrome where these are silver...)

Those are correct 68 hub caps. Here's some other NOS ones I found.

This is what a 67 looks like.

I have a dozen or more original pictures of 68's with those grey hup cabs. They are unique to that year.

So you're telling me they made chromed hubcaps only to paint them silver and black? And that these chrome ones were painted and the paint just wore off?

The 68 hub caps shown here were the basic painted steel povery hub caps. The optional chromed (P03) version ones were the same basic shape as the painted hub caps with the black and red areas painted the same as the povery hub caps.

The chrome full wheel covers were factory option P01 or dealer installed.

Are the hub caps you are trying to paint chrome or steel underneath?

68 suburbans burb has a slightly different version of these caps, gray painted and seem a bit smoother or flatter in design

also dont forget the 67 68 caps designed for the riveted tang style wheels. they re modified version of the regular pop on dog dish 67 68 caps,.

there are more 67 68 dog dish caps variations than realized really. too bad remaining examples of caps and covers of 67 68 arent as common as all the many variations and styles.... especially the red and black full covers!!

I guess I should have read your original question more carefully Bluie. I thought you were painting povery steel hub caps.

Yes, Paint the black areas and red areas the same as the poverty hubs. The red does seem to have some orange - almost chevy orange on the ones I have.

If anyone has some of these 'poverty caps' off their truck that are in great shape I'd be interested in taking them off your hands if you don't want/need them anymore.
