Power Steering Hose Dilenma!!!

Guys I have finally had it with this freaking power steering hose. I have ordered three different ones and none of them will fit properly.

I am using brand new parts based on a 71c10 2wd factory set up. The pump and the steering gear box are bolted and fit perfect so I know I have the right parts however the pressure hose is the one that I am having a problem finding the correct one.

Does any of you have the part number or a suggestion of what hose I should use?

In fact if you have a picture of the hose you used it will help me greatly. Downhere this trucks are NOT common at all like a camaro, corvette or a chevelle.

Thanks

Albert

Re: Power Steering Hose Dilenma!!!

The ones I'm familiar with come with a brass fitting that screwed into the back of the pump - then it all fit together. I'll see if I can find the part number... it came through Advance Auto.

Can't find it just yet - check in my gallery and you can see the pics of my pump and lines - it's a 6 cylinder though but I think the fitting should be the same..... if you can see it in the back of the pump.. best I can do at the moment, don't have my files with me.

Re: Power Steering Hose Dilenma!!!

thanks I will check your gallery.

The biggest problem is the 90 degree behind the pump..

Re: Power Steering Hose Dilenma!!!

I bought one for my 69 K20 and it fit perfectly but when I bought one for my 70 K5 it was way wrong. Ended up buying another one for a 69 K20. Course there is absolutely no difference in that area of a 69 K20 and a 70 K5 so I can't imagine why they were different.

Unfortunately it sounds like your just gonna have to keep trying different ones.

Maybe give one for a 69 K20 a try - the 4wd's engine is set back a bit more but it still might work for you.

Hey Albert, after trying several different pressure hoses for fit & finished look, the one that I liked and have been using on small blocks both C & K series is a Parts Master p/n 71065, I added a couple of extra pics of this pressure hose installed on 68 C/10. Good luck on your hunt!

Re: Power Steering Hose Dilenma!!!

For my BBC I brought my entire old hose to a hydraulics shop and they brazed on some fittings and made an entire new hose out of regular stock. so now when my hose get old and brittle I can just have a short length made up and bolt it to the fittings..

Re: Power Steering Hose Dilenma!!!

For future reference I have found that http://www.rockauto.com/ is a great source for looking up not only part numbers, but many a picture of the actual parts are often there as well. Then I call the local shop with the number which makes the trip a one time deal instead of trial and error.. Hope it helps,

Drew

Re: Power Steering Hose Dilenma!!!

I had a similar problem finding one that wasn't..sorta bound up & twisted badly. I ordered another new one from GMC Pauls, it fit like a glove no binding, easy no leak install. I think mine was the angle and incorrect position of where the 90 was swedged.

Re: Power Steering Hose Dilenma!!!

No but was easy to obtain. I just went to GMC Pauls site. it was more expensive probally but figured I would use a known stand by your part board vendor. And it worked great for me after spending 3X's for others. Having ordered from him before if it didn't work I was going to return it.
