72 K-10 Problem
Hey guys,
I'm about to buy a 72 K-10, it's got a 350 V8. It's extremely clean in and out with very low rust. The problem is that I'm getting whitish blue smoke out the pipes when I accelerate it and get on it. It's not much but I could easily see it. What is the most likely thing that could be? Also what's that gonna cost to fix? Also if they have any common problems that I should look out for before actually buying it? Thanks everyone |

Re: 72 K-10 Problem
Whiteish blue smoke is oil. Do a compression test or leakdown. Sounds like the engine is getting worn. Look for rust in the cab corners and rockers

Re: 72 K-10 Problem
If the engine is worn, it may need to be rebuilt or replaced with a new short block, both of which are fairly expensive. Depending on the amount of wear, you may be able to hone and re-ring the pistons. In either case, it will cost some $s and take some effort and time.
Consider that in your offer. |

As stated probably a rebuild soon or new engine. You can get a crate 350 from JEGs for about the same price as a rebuild. I think they are $1500. Rebuild will be about that depending on what it needs.
Tell the guy you noticed the smoke and talk him down and get a sweet deal. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 72 K-10 Problem
If you could wait it out Jegs puts those GM engine on sale about every three or four months at a super deal like $1200. They have warranty that is pretty sweet. Jim
