TOTM-May2006-Got Mud?

The theme for this month’s TOTM is

Got Mud?
Now here are the rules or criteria for the vehicles being nominated

To be nominated for this month’s theme

• Open to all year 4x4 Trucks, Suburbans, Blazers, Jimmys, etc.
• It must be currently street legal and at least occassionally on the road.
• This includes any stock to modded 4x4 vehicles, however they must be based off a stock frame, no tubed or monster truck type setup please (that one will be down the line sometime)
• If a truck has won a TOTM already in the last 6 months, you are ineligable. If you were nominated and didn't get selected it you may be nominated and compete in this month's category. Also if it is a different truck than that won prior, you may also compete.

To Nominate:

You or someone else may nominate your truck. We will need a picture of the nominee vehicle, the owner’s board name, and the basics specs of the truck (year, engine/drive train specs). You or your nominator can provide additional info if desired.

Nominees will be accepted until May 23. If additonal information is needed, then I will PM the first 10 nominees to get any additional data or pictures if they haven’t already been provided. You can PM me for an e-mail address in case anyone has problems resizing them for the board. We will then put together a Poll Thread and announce it here on the General Discussion Board for the voting. The Poll will start to run on May 24 for 1 week (closes on the morning of the My 31). After the voting period is over we will make the official announcement of the winners through the General Discussion Board area.

So lets get some dirt flying here for the "Got Mud" TOTM.

Re: TOTM-May2006-Got Mud?

I thought I would jump in here with our K10. I have had this truck about 10 years and it has been on the road now about 8 years. For you guys who haven't been building these trucks that long I am here to tell you it was different 10 years ago. I bought this one from a guy in south Georgia and it is my first truck. I could see it needed cab corners and rockers but that was just the tip of the iceberg. Everything but the hood and the roof has had major repairs or been replaced. I replaced both front fenders and inner fenders, the rockers and inner rockers were changed along with the corners. Of course the cab floor was also repaired next to the kick panels. The doors were re-skinned and had new bottoms welded in ( remember repro doors weren't available back then). I bought another bed for the wheel tubs (unavailable at the time) and a complete running truck for the bedsides (also unavailable). Two bed floors were welded together to build one ( the outside edges of one and the center of the other) . We also replaced the front wall of the bed and the tailgate ( tailgate was later replaced again when the repro quality improved) The paint is the original color which is simply listed as Dark Green on the build sheet. The truck is a factory SWB 4x4, one of only 6069 produced. The 350 engine is original to the truck but we did pull it out and freshen it up. It is a stock build aside from a Comp Cams 4x4 camshaft, roller tip rockers and an Edelbrock aluminum intake (painted orange for that stealth look). Altitude was adjusted via a Skyjacker Softride 4" system which used front and rear springs (no blocks). We also swapped out the brake lines for braided stainless units and the steering arm was changed. It rolls on 33x12.50 Mickey Thompson radial Claws and 15x10 Mickey Thompson Challenger wheels. To keep things cool a Vintage Air surefit system was installed and the windows were darkened a smidge for privacy. The dash is uncut with the old pushbutton still there for style while a CD unit resides in the glovebox and is controled via a steering column mounted remote. I also swapped in a Camaro tach. We also swapped the fan to an electric unit for a little more umph and mpg. I hope I haven't bored you with my rambling. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Thanks

Re: TOTM-May2006-Got Mud?

Here's my best shot, 1968 GMC K2500, 305 GMC V6, Holley 500 2bbl. carb (works slick), dual straight pipes, Dana rears, power brakes (stops good), manual steering (sucks), and pizza-cutter 7.00x17 tires on heavy split rims. Swapped in a NP205 t-case in place of the old Rockwell, and it seems to be in good shape so far.
Pics can be seen here:

Re: TOTM-May2006-Got Mud?

Here's my K5 for Nomination:

(Leading the trail for a bronco in this one)

Here's one with a little mud on board:

Interior with silverado buckets:

Engine:

Lights Converted to H4's with the addition of relays (bright!)

Specs are:

1975 K5
350 with an edlebrock performer intake, Q-jet, headers and serpentine from a 94 Chevy truck running through the stock Sm465 4-speed to a 205 tcase. Axles are stock D44 front/12 bolt rear running 3.73 gears. The truck has a 4" lift made up of front 4" rough country springs and the rear is stock springs with an Echobit shackle flip kit. Rough country shocks all the way around and longer front brakelines from a 94 C3500HD. Tires are 35x12.50 Dunlop Mud radials on 15" steelies.

Inside I'm running 2002 Silverado Buckets with the integrated seatbelts. It's also go a hidden Pioneer Cd player and a factory radio delete plate covering the gaping hole that the PO left in the dash. Factory tilt with the 4 speed too.

It's not as show-worthy as some on here, but what it lacks in beauty is made up by absolute reliability and handles the rough stuff with ease.
