Cab Cart

Anybody here ever built a stand to mount your cab to work on out of an old chassis? I have a bent one that I have to get rid of anyway. I'm thinking about cutting it in front of and behind the cab, welding on some legs and wheels and braces and viola a cab stand. Thoughts?

I think I may build something like this, its adjustable, for the cab and bed.
But I am going to use large pheumatic casters so I can wheel it outside on the driveway.

I thought of doing the same thing awhile ago. Then I saw this post about a dolley on the boards here. For the amount of time I'm building one of these dolleys.

I've got the frame section from a parts truck sitting in my shop, (leaning against the wall!) , I was going to put 4 heavy swivelling castors under it for moving the cab around,(for my '67) just haven't had/made the time to do that, my only concern with that plan is that it is going to put the cab low to the ground and make it difficult to work under the cab if needed.I might make the frame section/castors higher when I finally get it together.Or I could possibly make the cart/dolly "tiltable" to be able to flip the cab on it's back if needed. I beleive rocklyn or maybe glock35spc have done a tilting cab dolly arrangment, with plans for making one.I'm sure someone else will chime in on this if I'm wrong.

Here is how I built a small one to temporarilly make the cab mobile. I cut the original front and rear of the frame off with the cab still atached. But first I drilled and bolted heavy duty casters to the frame in all four corners. The best place to cut the frame at the rear is just after the main crossmember. As for the front I just cut it where it would fit in the garage. You will have tto use and leave installed a auttomatic transmission crossmember. Or you could weld in a piece of steel instead. I thought about makeing it taller later but instead was given a cab dolly from the widow of a truck I built. I hope these pics will give you some ideas. I scraped the temp one after getting the new dolly.
