Vintage trailer

Hi all,new to the board. I have a 1965 chevy C20 with the 292 ci six banger. I have been working on making it a comfortable driver. Air conditioning install is about half done and I am researching a power steering upgrade. Realizing that I am about to have a nice over the road truck I was thinking of finding a period correct travel trailer to pull with the old girl. Unfortunately I can't find any towing specs. It has the granny low four speed. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I know the GVW of my little 1/2 ton is 5000 lbs. Don't remember what the tongue weight would be, I guess it depends on the type of rec'r you have.

aerotruk63 you are the man on the literature! What did that publication come in? Or was it just a separate mailing? Apparently then you could get a SWB with a c20 rear axle. Has anyone ever come across this in a wrecking yard? Anyhow thats cool!

Thanks for the information. Being I have a 3/4 ton could I expect to get a bit more utility weight wise or do you think 5k lbs is my top end. Thanks

5K is the top end. Back in the day they used big heavy cars to tow trailers, not trucks. Get a small Canned Ham trailer, will look period correct and they weigh very little.

C-20 max GVW is 7,500. Much more truck than a C-10. More brakes, better handling, better driveline, etc. A real truck, more or less. My truck is a C-30 with the base model springs; I had another complete '64 LWB step on my 18' car trailer and I could hardly tell it was there. I think a C-20 can tow substantially more than 5,000.

Also, make sure you don't confuse GVW with GTW or GCW.

It came with a bunch of random stuff I purchased. The paper looks like a thermo paper copy of the original. It mentions that info was to be made available in 64. I would imagine there might be a mention in the 64 DATA BOOK but I don't have a complete one, so that's the best I can share. Still neat info!
