Bought New Truck-85 C35 Crew Cab Dually

Well I finally have another truck, just bought it this afternoon. 85 crew cab dually with a large steel welder's flat deck. 350 with a 4 speed transmission, dual tanks. Truck runs and drives OK, engine isn't too bad, but needs manifold work (seller included replacement manifolds).

I know, I know, you need pics lol. I will try and get some as soon as I retrieve the truck. It's going to be a pain, I can't trailer it cuz it won't fit on my car trailer, and I can't get a temporary permit to drive it home, due to the fact the truck is currently unplated and labelled "unfit" for the road as it hasn't been safetied lately. Looks like I'm going to be towin it home with a tractor. Heck at this point I can't even get the ownership switched over into my name, since it is more than 20 years old I have to get an appraisal done on it to verify the value so the MTO can charge me taxes on it. Ahhh the joys of dealing with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation!

My plans for the truck are to resell it, as I really have no use for a crew cab dually, or maybe trade it for a 3/4 ton standard cab. If neither of those options work out I'll keep it, fiddle with it, and see if I can't get it safetied and on the road to tow my car trailer.

Well I got it home. Not going to say HOW I got it home though, might get me in some trouble lol. Got it home just at dark, and in the pouring rain. I will get pics tomorrow, I PROMISE!

Driving that beast around makes me really want to keep it, however at this point I don't have the money to get it safetied and on the road, much less the money for gas lol.

once you go big and fat you'll never want to go back

and once you make that jump to buy a crew cab dually your first thought shouldn't be gas milage. what it is is what it is

hey dan76 what do you need to know about the hydroboost

I know, I absolutely love the truck and would like to keep and drive it. Buutttttt it needs some parts and work to safety and get it on the road, the gas mileage would KILL me, and the lowest insurance quote I can get on it is $114/month. Even though I have my full G license and a driver's ed course, insurance companies don't take kindly to male drivers under the age of about 25. Plus I'm short on money, and everything I do have is going towards paying for university next year.

Re: Bought New Truck-85 C35 Crew Cab Dually

Alright I am working on the pics, but I keep getting this message: "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing. If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error."

I'm amazed at the condition the truck is in, especially considering it used to be a company truck owned my a local welding/machine shop. I would have expected it to be beat on and abused. Someone went to great care to make sure the truck was undercoated/oil sprayed, and the body and paint were recently redone. The interior is a bit rough and mismatched, but whatever lol.

And yeah Ontario is strange when it comes to vehicles, a lot stricter on laws and they like to discriminate heavily when it comes to insurance. Under the age of 25 insurance tends to be 2X for males what it is for females, simply because "their" statistics show that males get in more accidents and in more serious accidents than females. Like I said for me on this truck cheapest I can get is $114/month, if I keep all the variables the same but switch my gender to female, insurance drops to $65/month. Also, the graduated driver's license system they brought in in the 90's to try and lower accidents with young drivers plays havoc with insurance. Funny thing is, since they brought this system in, accidents involving young drive have INCREASED.

I'm going to try and upload them to Photobucket and resize them, hopefully that will help so I can link the URLs instead of a direct upload. Hang in there guys!

Anyone recommend a post or an IRL on the subject?

Looks like a heck of a buy. You could always sit it aside for now, and maybe funds and situation will change down the road.
