redneck enclosed trailer

I took Big Bertha down to the world of wheels show in Pittsburgh today. I could not find an enclosed trailer it would fit in and since it was snowing and roads were sloppy, I improvised .....call this my redneck enclosed trailer. It only took about 15 minutes once we got there to clean any spots that got dirty on the trip.

Yep...covered it with blankets and used about 1/2 a roll.

Look, on that trailer, that must be a new model that they haven't announced yet. One of those retro trucks. They have it all wrapped up to disguise it.

A number of the guys are probably old enough to remember when there was an annual new car announcement date every fall that was a really big deal and sometimes they would wrap a car up on the showroom floor a couple of days ahead of time just to keep people guessing and peak interest in the new models.

I do, it was in September. That was when all the car dealers were still down town. They would cover the windows with paper and stock in the middle of the night. I remember going down to the Chevy dealer and drooling over the new Corvettes, then over to the mopar dealer to see the Big Dodges, one time they had one with the 413 crossram setup. We also had a foriegn car dealer that had MG's, Triumphs, Healeys, and Alfa Romeos. I spent a lot of time with the Alfas, twin cam engine mesmerized me. On a slow day the saleman took me for a ride still don't know why never owned one. Other specific memory was my Dad and I going over to the Porsche dealer (he had vw bus and bug at the time) to see the first 911 and 912s when the debuted.

Yep the new year model was a big thing then and cars came in on convoy trucks wrapped up like Buggy5872 had his wrapped on the way to the show.

I can remember that we couldn't wait until school got out so we could run down to the dealers in town to see for ourselves what the new models looked like and a couple of local gents usually had standing orders for delivery of the new model on the first day they came out.

When I lived in Texas there was an old lady in Waco that had a standing order for a new white Cadillac four door to be delivered the first day they came out every year. Some years her old car didn't have enough miles on it to have it's first oil change. That dealer was also the Olds dealer and I was deep into Olds Cutlass at the time and was there once when she rolled in and signed the papers signed a check and drove off in the new one all in a matter of 20 minutes. Funny part was that her old one was already sold before it hit the lot.

I once taped up the leading edge of the hood on my then freshly painted C-10 to drive to a show an hour away.

I have a friend that will be wrapping up his VW for an hour ride (open trailer) to a show in a couple weeks. Pallet wrap is pretty reasonable to buy online.
