PB Blaster or WD40? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

While I'm waiting for a screw to unfreeze after liberally applying WD40, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the best screw/bolt unfreezer due to rust. PB Blaster? WD40? Are there any others out there that work? I don't know if anyone has ever asked this question before - at least I haven't seen it.

PB Blaster...it is a penetrating oil that works well on rusty old bolts, etc. WD-40 is a "water dispersant" (WD) product and not a penetrating oil. It absorbs water very well but will not pentrate rust like PB.

pb blaster..i used it on a gas tank under my 84 gmc, and after abotu 5 mintues, i removed all the bolts by hand..i used them on bed bolts on a buddies 86 4x4, and the came right off to..i will never use wd40 for removing bolts again..thats for squeky doors now...

is anybody useing the kroil,,is it better than pb blaster..

Kroil is well known in the firearm industry and is great stuff. But between your choices PB it is.

We use PB Blaster in our shop, and it works great, but It's no miracle. Still, great stuff though. In the VDOT shop I use to work in the guys there swore on this stuff called "FREE". Supposedly better then PB Blaster, but it cost a few dollars more.

I've almost always been able to remove some old rusty stuff with some PB Blaster and a good torch. Only on a few occasions did that combo not work.

PB BLASTER ALL THE WAY. works great and goes along way, And 68GMC454 you might try white lithium grease for those squeeky doors. it lasts a really long time ,ive never had to re-grease a squeeky door after using it

my uncle is a gunsmith by trade. He specializes on weapons made before WWi, and has stuff from the 1400's.
I tossed him a can of PB Blaster a mounth ago after seeing him spraying WD-goat p!ss, and he was amazed. He said it is right up there with the Kroil that he only uses when he has to.

Two different animals.PB Blaster is great for freeing up frozen bolts,not so great as a lube.WD40 is for lube.Lube is good on stuck bolts and will always be a help.even if not enough help.
I use PB Blaster to free things up,then I lube it with WD40 or CRC.

Yepper - but WD is a poor lube IMO. (Can of worms opened).

TRI-FLOW for the win!!!

It is excellent stuff. Pick some up next time you are at the industrial supply store (usually the only places that have it locally). It's what I use to clean my guns, and also to wipe them down - stock and all. Works great. (Edit: Yes, I do still use bore solvent).

The products that get my vote........

PB Blaster for a penetrant.

Triflow for a pivot, cable, chain lube. Hey Orange, many bicycle shops carry Triflow as a lube for bike chains. Also comes in drip or spray.

Between WD and PB--PB gets my vote.

Amazingly another choice for freeing up frozen threads is old brake fluid, but watch the paint when you use brake fluid.

I choose automatic trans fluid. Once you use it, you'll never spend your money on anything else.

I agree with brake fluid too, just way too harsh to use near stuff I want to stay looking good.
