Transmission Shopping Question?

So Im shopping for a SB and and transmission. Going to go with a 383 stroker about 375HP and 490TQ. Now I have at TH400 mounted to what I think is a NP205.

So to my question is there an equal tranny that has a 4th gear or overdrive that the drive shaft will still work or am I goning to have to get a new drive shaft?

Re: Transmission Shopping Question?

Are you saying you have a 4x4 with a TH400? Normally, K's came with TH350s. It's not a simple task to swap in an O/D trans in a 4x4 due to t-case, but it is doable. Keep in mind that the T-case will normally stay in the same spot, but the engine may have to move fwd a bit, and there is room. Advanced Adapters makes a nice adapter to make it all work also - but it is a big job. See these threads for some very helpful info:
