Are dust shields necessary as long as you do not drive in the rain? My truck will never get driven if there is a cloud in the sky so not worried about water on the rotors. Cannot seem to find a set of shields that are less than a ton of money. Unless someone has a set that they would like to sell cheap

Otherwise I am inclined to not put any on. Bad idea?

I bought these from ECE, $39 a pair with gasket and hardware. I have yet to install them though. I like the idea of keeping brake dust off of my suspension but idk how well it really works.

I would run them if possible. They will help keep road debree away from the bearing seals. I know you only drive it on nice days but the roads in this country are brutal, rain or shine.

I hear some of the CPP drop spindles don't have anywhere to bolt dust shields onto? Is this true? Modular spindles maybe?

Well,they're called dust shields and there ain't no dust when it rains. I would spend the money and run them. GM (& all other auto makers) put stuff on the trucks for good reason. Then again,look at motorcycles. Hmmm......

Some other manufacturers call them splash shields so was wondering what they are REALLY for? Seems to me water on rotor would be of more concern than dust.. That's why I asked, I just don't know!

That is true. With out splash / dust shields, you are inviting water into the seal area of the hub bearings. The shield will not keep water off the rotor and will not keep dust off the frame. It may divert it but will not stop it entirely.

If you do not drive your truck in harsh weather conditions or even rain, you probably don't really need shields.

They may help grab air to pass over the rotor for cooling. More like a shroud than a shield

Left them off my shortbed for years without a problem. Also, Ive got 4 wheel Willwoods on the Jimmy, no provision for dust shields there, and Im not bothered. fwiw
