I have a 1969 Chevrolet C10 Stepside. Had the old wood bed taken out and replaced with a nice kit from MAR - K. In looking through the LMC book, I found an exhaust heat shield listed and purchased. I do not remember that the bed underneath had an OEM heat shield. Is a heat shield really necessary? I have not installed the one purchased yet as the distance from tailpipe to wood looked sufficient enought not to be a concern. Anyone have any experience or comments. Thanks.

Mine has the orginal wood and does not have a heat shield.

My truck has the originals on it. The set just above the axle where the pipe is nearest to the wood. I dont know whether or not they are nesessary, but put them back on. I would guess sitting at ilde for a while the wood could get hot. I'd put them on to help prevent cracking. If the wood is wet , heating it may cause cracks. As you know wood replacement is a big job. Throw em back on.
