Rebuild Leaf Spring Bushing '64K10 How-To
Getting ready to take leaf spring off frame and would like any suggestions on how best to remove bushings? Is their any reason to not remove them? Never driven truck so do not know their condition. I think Ron in 62K10s build has posted where to purchase replacement parts.
Did find one post from 2013. Re: 62 K10 frame sees the light of day 61K10 asked the following question and received response below. I wish my frame was done like yours--nice job. did you rebuild your leaf spring bushings? and if so how hard was it taking them apart? "Yes I replaced pins and bushings friont and rear. I also replaced the shackles on the front. The front end rear spring mount bushings were really tough. I was afraid the rear springs would be hard but they came right apart. The shop manual says to use a slide hammer to remove the pins; but I used a brass drift and drove them inwards. I'm glad I replaced everything it really snugged up the suspension... I also replaced a couple of broken leaf springs.." Thanks, Les Last edited by aotte1; 12-03-2015 at 03:35 PM. |

Re: Rebuild Leaf Spring Bushing '64K10 How-To
I used a 20 ton shop press to remove and install a new set of bushings when I made mine driveable. When I started my frame-off build due to broken and very saggy springs, I had a spring shop build me new springs. These new springs came with the bushings already installed.

The bushing in the spring eye's are easy with a press.(ft springs) mine came right out. Now the shackle in frame are another story. the pins screw into the bushings or out to remove. I can't get pins out and they move about 30 degrees back and forth. I could try and hammer them out but don't want to start another problem.
