Drilling firewall on a 71 c10 query?

I need to fit a choke to my 71 c10 which has a Holley carb,is it ok to drill a hole straight through the firewall inline with the choke linkage? On the inside of the firewall seems to be some kind of card? Is it just insulation?or will there be something else inside the card?

Sounds like you want to drill thru your firewall insulation , there should already be a hole to feed the choke cable thru , drilling thru the board and insulation will catch on the drill bit and cause it to ball up and get stuck , if you feel the need to drill a new hole move the insulation out of the way and avoid the headache , the choke cable will make a pretty good S turn before it will bind .

There is no hole there already,it may have had an electric choke at some time,as long as it's only insulation then I can get over that, cheers for the quick reply
