BBC Help!
I am considering freshening up my 402 and I ran across a great deal on a NEW 2000 L-29 Vortec long-block crate engine. With a shipment from Summit and some assembly work, I could have a new 4-bolt-main, roller-cam 454 ready to drop in for less than $2,300. If I have my 402 rebuilt, I fear I would have to spend close to that for the disassembly, hot-tank, machine-work, bearings, cam, reworked heads, assembly, etc.
Do I store my 402 and install/drive the 454 or freshen up the 402 and not worry about having to store the original engine? Am I missing any good alternatives here? |

I would personally want to keep the original engine with the truck

Re: BBC Help!
I would go 454. Save the 402 in case you want to sell the truck someday. A big block truck with the original engine is probably worth something to someone. Unfortunately a fully loaded big block truck is just not worth what a similar equipped car is worth. If you want to drive it, you will like the 454 WAY more than the 402.

I am thinking about replacing the engine in my '70 Chevy slide in camper truck with a crate engine. If I do I will keep the original 350 in case a new owner might want to rebuild it. It does run but definately needs rebuilt. LockDoc
