Re: Show me your Cab Clearance lights!!!!

Here is some pics to illustrate original cab lights:
OEM cab lights on my 85 C-30 and a 79 C-30 I have since sold. Cab lights are the same on both.

The 79 was a former municipal truck so it was equipped with some added reflectors on the mirrors and lights in the grill.

Did replace the lenses on the 85 with new. (couple were cracked and none would "clean up") LMC or ebay is a good source for replacement lenses. I found ebay was the cheapest source.

Re: Show me your Cab Clearance lights!!!!

The problem would be getting the wire to them. After you drill the holes in the roof there is an inner piece of metal too. You would have to be good at fishing wires....

You could always have someone measure thiers.

Re: Show me your Cab Clearance lights!!!!

HERE'S WHAT I POSTED IN AN EARLIER MENTIONED THREAD

1. Diameter of all the holes is 1 3/8"
2. Center 3 holes (#'s 2,3 & 4) are located 5 3/16" back from the edge of windshield gasket to center of hole. Front leading edge of 3 center holes is 4 1/2" from edge of windshield gasket.
3. Center 3 holes measure 6 3/8" center to center to center. 12 3/4" center to center from hole 2 to hole 4.
4. Holes 1 & 5 (outer most 2 holes) are located 5 3/16" from the inside edge of the drip rail to the center of the hole with the edge of hole measuring @ 4 1/2" from the inside edge of the drip rail.
5. Holes 1 & 5 measure 6 3/16" from the edge of the windshield gasket to the center of the holes with the edge of the holes measuring @ 5" from gasket edge.
6. Holes 1 & 2 measure center to center 17 3/8" with 16" from edge of hole to edge of hole.
Holes 4 & 5 measure the same as 1 & 2.
7 Screw mounting holes are 2 3/4" across the center of the larger holes.
8. Outer 2 lights are angled outwards about 10 to 15 degrees from straight forward.

Re: Show me your Cab Clearance lights!!!!

i strongly recommend an original factory set of lights if you buy some . i bought two differant brands of after market roof lights for a dodge i had (they actually fit any truck) and had nothing but with problems with them . they leaked terrible and i installed them correctly and the last thing you want is water inside your roof . go the extra few bucks and get the proper ones .

My truck was the same way (no headliner) drill the holes for the lights, then run a piece of bailing wire up the A-pillar after removing the kick panel on the drivers side, tie the light wires to the bailing wire and pull through. The only thing I had a problem with, was the insulation in the roof, the bailing wire tends to get hung up in it a little.

Re: Show me your Cab Clearance lights!!!!

Anyone know if the later 'shorter' OE lights (say post 98) are similar in size vs the earlier (73-90) 'taller' lights? Mine are less than pristine & it would be nice to swap to new lower profile units if possible.

Re: Show me your Cab Clearance lights!!!!

My truck has no headliner either, so I took the whole light and wiring assembly from another square body, and the factory wiring harness ties right into the headlight switch. So what i did was drilled the correct size holes for each light, then tied the end of the harness that goes to the headlight switch to a coat hanger and slid it down the pillar. About 6-8 inches above the driver kick panel is a factory hole that is roughly 1 1/2" in diameter. When you've gotten the wire/coat hanger down the pillar you will have to look into the hole for the wires. Once you've gotten the wires to this hole you can pull them through the hole and wire it up.
