Is this bellhousing right for my motor/truck?

I got this thing so long ago that I have forgotten where I got it or it's connection to my motor. I have a 54-59 235 going onto a 52ish frame, is this thing right? Will a 12 volt starter bolt to it?

Crap, the part number what an idea! LOL Mine is 3835201 and it looks like it's for a 48-53 crap! Now, will it work anyway? That I don't know.

Re: Is this bellhousing right for my motor/truck?

My frame crossmember has holes 17 inches apart and the mounts on my bellhousing measure that where a bolt would be. https://www.ecklers.com/1947-53-chev...waAtpGEALw_wcB

So these mounts would work it looks like. So it would bolt in, but what about everything else like flywheel and all that?

This is the bellhousing out of the 51 1-1/2 ton I have

I don't have a back side photo but yours looks right.

Re: Is this bellhousing right for my motor/truck?

The one Mongocnfly showed may be for a car as it doesn't have the pads for the stomp pedal.

"pads for the stomp pedal?"

Are you talking about the mechanical starter pedal? I would like to run that actually.

Re: Is this bellhousing right for my motor/truck?

OH YEAH, I see that now on the top, I think I have all that linkage too. But is there a 12 volt "stomp pedal" starter?

Re: Is this bellhousing right for my motor/truck?

No unless you want to use a floor mounted farm tractor starter button and make a faux stomp starter to maintain the look.

You would just run what would be the "purple" wire on a 12 V GM rig to one pole on the starter button and then to the S pole on the starter and start it with your foot rather than a key switch or push button.

One like this, https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pr...-switch-dr405c then you use the round pedal piece you hit with your foot and a piece of tubing to make the top for it to look authentic.

I've been going to root around in the green truck and see if the pedal piece is in the box of stuff in the cab and make one up for show and tell.

Re: Is this bellhousing right for my motor/truck?

54 had a bellhousing with mounting pads at an angle to match crossmember that it mounted to. Earlier bellhousings and crossmembers used flat mounting surfaces like you show. If using "52ish" frame, I would think that bellhousing would work.

Yeah, it looks like it! The holes measure across looking like the brackets on my bellhousing would be right there.

Yeah, that's all something I will decide when the time comes. My biggest thing is will it work, it looks like this bellhousing will work for all that I want.

Re: Is this bellhousing right for my motor/truck?

When I bought my 48 in 1973 it had a 194 six cylinder bolted to a late 50's V8 bellhousing. I swapped in a 283 without removing the bellhousing and a few years later when I redid the truck I discovered that they had done a bit of a hack job to get the V8 bell housing to fit the 48 crossmember. One wouldn't be hard to modify if you had a bare chassis to work with but a real challenge with the cab on the frame.

That same bellhousing bolted right to the crossmember in the 54 frame I have under the truck now.

Re: Is this bellhousing right for my motor/truck?

And thus the reason I want something to simply bolt in, I am DONE with the frame.

Re: Is this bellhousing right for my motor/truck?

Ok, on the flywheel, it looks like I threw mine away when I moved thinking I would just replace it with a new one but I have been looking and can't find one. If any of you know of a flywheel for a 54-59 (I think that's the right one) drive by and throw it on my porch huh?

I don't have it or I'd relay it to you via my cousin who has a lot of family on her hubby's side in Boise.

Re: Is this bellhousing right for my motor/truck?

A guy in Caldwell has a used one https://www.ebay.com/p/1723380984

It looks like it can be surfaced. That would be a short drive and if he might deal a bit for cash on the spot.
If you can't find a new one for a reasonable price.

Thanks, my brother had recommended a new on, it's about $100 so I am going to go with it. Thanks for the search for me.

Getting that one and having it surfaced might cost more than the new one. I wasn't finding a new one with a quick search.
