sanding/painting door panels - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I know how hard it is to find a good set of 72 door panels, so I’m going to prep and paint mine. I was wondering if anybody has sanded the texture and the scroll off of the door panels, because the scroll makes no sense, since it's the only scroll pattern on the whole truck and kind of feminine.

You could get the woodgrain metal panels that is used on the deluxe door panels that covers up all that crap underneath. I had some billet aluminum panels made for mine.

are the woodgrain panels plastic or wood? plastic would have a wood sticker on it so it would be smooth and i could paint it nice. and they do cover "where it's white on yours" right?

I had these panels sandblasted and painted. I think that they turned out pretty good.

Actually, they are stamped metal with a fake woodgain finish that could easily be painted like the white ones above. If you want a set you should post a wanted to buy on the parts board for them along with the chrome metal trim that surrounds them. New ones are quite expensive and I don't think they are reproducing the chrome trim piece. Yes, the large aluminum billet pieces on mine were machined to the same dimensions as factory the stamped metal pieces.
