What is a "Fender Side" pickup?

Does it mean stepside? I noticed that in the VIN decoder you can have Fleetside or Fenderside, but I don't know what Fenderside is!

I think Ford called them flaresides? Or maybe they called them flaresides after the fleet beds came out? GM called them stepsides.

I recall GM called their "wide bed" trucks fleetsides and Ford called them style sides.

Look whose names stuck around... :p

Re: What is a "Fender Side" pickup?

GMC used Wideside and Fenderside, Chevy used Fleetside and Stepside.

Really? Never paid attention... like in advertising, or on the window sticker, or?

Do they still have a stepside?

GM stopped the stepsides at the end of the GMT800s (2006).

Re: What is a "Fender Side" pickup?

I believe they used these terms up until they stopped making Stepsides and Fendersides.

It's real simple:

Once the Fleetside came out in '58 Chevy started calling the traditional pickup beds Stepsides. GMC calls their wide bed a Wideside and started calling the traditional bed a Fenderside.

Ford make s Stylesides and when they made the traditional bed they were called Flaresides.

Dodge wide beds are called Sweptlines and the traditional bed was called the Utiline.
