Fleetbed paint -two tone

This past Sunday we brough the last part to the painter to get done. I need a bit of information as to where the paint break stopps.

I have the lower body color canyon blue and the upper olympic white. I 'm not sure IF the white wraps all the way around the rear of the Tail light pillar or stops at the panel break/ I suspect it wraps around but need to make sure for the painte.

Also I need to be reminded as to to paint the inside of the bed, the lowere body color? if two-tone.

Thanks
jake

Heres my 64 GMC.
Its of course been repainted but as far as I can tell it is what came from the factory.
I have also included a copy of an add that shows the 2 tone.

Re: Fleetbed paint -two tone

They are Centerline California smoothies 18 x 8-1/2
I had a sign maker friend make me the center sections out of self adhesive vehicle graphic material and i stuck them onto the rims. worked out very well, if they get damaged a little hot air and they will peel right off, and new ones can be applied.

Re: Fleetbed paint -two tone

i dont know personally...im a stepside guy....could it have been a plant by plant decision? just saw some bed detail in the pic and saw it was black. may also be for ad purpose to show more deminsion for the pics? the top of the bed panel is red.

definitely some variations there it looks like....always interesting to see these kinda pics...just when you think you've got it figured out, another pic pops up to make you think otherwise ....I'm thinking maybe plant by plant decision as well.

When you think it's carved in stone it changes on someone else's truck, I think there is some differences with Canadian and US GMC's pics of mine for contrast it's a US 65..Vernski

Re: Fleetbed paint -two tone

on my truck we did not follow the "exact" factory scheme. We did not wrap around the upper cab, we carried the white completely around the cab.

I like the way GMC did the white on top of the bed and stopped it at the pillars, I'll do that, But putting the white in the bed against the black wheel tubs and bed boards imho is going to clash?

I question this picture actually shows the inside of the bed actually being black, if you look close at all the shadows, above back glass, between rear bumper and bottom of tailgate the shadow makes it appear to be black. I'm definitely not convinced 60 and 61 had black rear inner wheel tubs either. The picture below was from an Arizona 61 for sale. I have 3 60-61 long bed fleetsides here, all Custom cab, two are two tone trucks. Both two tone trucks are painted white in the bed just like this AZ truck below. The other one is a solid color in Mesa Tan 100% original paint California truck and the inner rear tubs are outer body color. I think in 62 or 63 they started with the black inner rear tubs .

Re: Fleetbed paint -two tone

Could be....I don't know personally. The only fleetside I've ever owned was a 61 c-10 short bed from the St. Louis plant. I wasn't two toned though and was painted the body color inside the bed.

Re: Fleetbed paint -two tone

I have looked through all the pics in my 60-63 file, many are of original paint trucks, and what I have noticed is the difference between the chevy and gmc 60-61 two tone.
chevys have the 2nd color(white) along the bottom, so what I see is all the chevys started out as colored trucks, and the white was added second. The inside of the box on a 60-61 chevy is body color , not white.
the 60-61 gmc 2 tone trucks have the 2nd color, (colors) along the bottom.
So what it looks like is that all 2 tone gmc's started out as white trucks, and the color was sprayed along the bottom, therefore they will all probably have a white inner bed, as 60-66's photos show...

...also remember that the factory 60gmc photo is this thread, (r/w gm photostore) was a preproduction truck that was pulled for ad photos and such, that might explain the black,or red inner bed, and the upper tailgate not painted, as they probably didn't have everything sorted out for production at that time.

...as I was posting photos, I noticed something else, it looks like chevy quit painting the tailgate 2 colors in 61, so the two tone tailgate was 60 only (maybe?)

.....and I have the last 2 pics of what was a 60-61 gmc off craigslist in Utah/Idaho that looks to have a body color-not white- inner bed...

Re: Fleetbed paint -two tone

i agree on the preproduction pics...i have seen alot of ad items that never made production. the 60 pic i posted could be painted or could be shadowed. there are enough original painted trucks here that id be more inclined to agree with what we can see now. who knew trying to be period correct could be so hard. ill look through some more vintage archived pics i have and see if i can find any more old dealer pics that might show any detail. has any difference been found in the canadian built trucks?
