Question Electric fans? What has everyone decided?

I have a swb 86 with a 350, I want electric fans but know NOTHING about them.. Can someone help?

Mark VIII dual speeds fans. You can run low and high independantly.it's also 18in, one of the bigest fans u can get

I'm happy with my Flex-A-Lite 295 Kit. Only change I made was to swap to the temp sensor that goes in the cylinder head instead of the radiator probe. It made it better.






I got this complete for $380 or so. They normally sell for like $500+ I just hunted for a deal for a while and finally found one, but then again I didnt have the time to piece together a setup. I kinda needed to slap it in and forget about it.

I agree, thats what I'm running but from a FORD TAURUS. Its cheap and works amazing!

I got my dual fans off a chrysler 300 (I think) and with a little fabrication they fit right in my stock shroud and picked up a relay at O'Reillys, a fitting for the temp sensor in the fitting on top of the water pump. Works great, looks stock (unless you really look) and did it all for around $75.00.

I got a brand NEW Jeep fan delivered to my door for $73 and change from here;

You can pick up a relay kit from most any auto parts store or Summit and Jegs....

Did you not read the thread I linked ?

There was a factory recall for broken blades on some fans; http://www.wjjeeps.com/tsb/recall_f25.pdf

The new up-graded fan solved the issue, That's why it's best to buy new instead of just any used efan from a JY.

Again as the linked thread shows, All you need is three screws and nuts to install the efan and a relay kit as I mentioned in my second post. All you get is the efan in a box from Dodge/Jeep.

I entered the new part# from the recall notice CBG4F250 in the "Search By Factory Part Number" box, Then clicked on the blue down arrow box and selected Jeep. Ordered it right then and there.....

Just picked up a Mark VIII fan off Ebay. I had a flex-a-lite 210 setup, but it was not enough to cool my 383 stroker.

so, I want to use the Jeep fan set-up. How would I do this and still have the AC hooked up? Is this even something that I need to be concerned about? By the way I have a 86 c1500.

I haven't had time to install mine yet but my plan is to run two relays. One off the AC clutch wire so the fan comes on/stays on when the AC is turned on, And the other through a thermo switch in the intake for when the AC isn't used.

The AC being hooked up is independent of the fan, unless you want it to automatically come on when the AC comes on. You will need some sort of fan controller.

We used the Dakota Digital PAC-2700 fan controller along with the Lincoln Mark VIII fan. It's setup so that you can wire in to come on with the AC if desired and setup for dual or single fans.

We replaced the standard 70 amp relays (because the blew!) with ZETTLER Super ISO Relays (AZ9801-1A-12D) that are 70 amp (you would have to order these online, not very common), and can handle up to 500amp momentary draw. The Mark VIII fan draws upwards of 100amps on startup, for about a millisecond, then levels out to about 30 amps continuous.

Posting a little more information than your question requires, in case anyone else has the same issue with overheating.

I was using a flex-a-lite 210 electric fan setup with controller and having overheating issues. The fan worked beautifully, but it was just not enough CFM going through to cool the beast.

After swapping it out for the Mark VIII fan, which has a low and high speed, we drove around Saturday in 100+ degree weather. Never could get it warm enough to kick in the high fan. When the low fan came on at 185 degrees, the temp would start going down almost instantly and never would get hot enough to kick on the high fan at 195.

A cheaper alternative might be to use a Hayden fan controller with a rated relay for the draw on your fan.

We use Ford taurus fans in our rock crawlers and they move A LOT of air. They are two speed and really keep things cool.

Good suggestion! Looking for a rad. and electric fan at this moment. Do you have any pictures of this set up, along with maybe a wiring diagram,with the componants(relays and wire harness) you may have used? Ready to fire up my new 400 and would like to keep it cool. Ordering radiator this weekend then on to the fan.

I don't have any pics of the setup. Ebay would probably be your best bet for these. There is a seller: gt_recycler that seems to have a real good reputation for pulling good fans and testing them before putting up for auction. That's who I bought mine through.

There are a couple of guys that sell relay kits specifically for the Mark VIII fans. I almost went with one of them, but really liked the Pac 2700 because settings can be digitally set. If you go with the Pac 2700 fan controller, though, you would need to get one of the relays I mentioned because we blew the default 70 amp that came with the Pac 2700.

I've driven my truck several times for extended periods in city traffic since I posted above, and the fan is keeping it very cool. We see 105+ temps every day. Before, I could barely drive five miles, and was sweating at stop lights over the temp, but now, it doesn't go past the half way point on the temp gauge. When it gets there, you can watch it go back down pretty quickly.
