Feel like giving up
Heard of a possible truck. Went there and not what I was looking for... 1930's... Drove down the street guy had 48 ford a studebaker truck. Pointed me in another direction. Found 54 Chevy but not for sale he had a lot of work into it. Then drove around found a 54 five window and a gmc 3 window. Owner nowhere to be found. Drove some more found another talked to the lady .. Not for sale.. I said 2? 3? 4? 5? Not that I was going to pay that much but she didn't bite. Found another three window and left my number in mail box. Kept driving near te neighborhood found another 3 window left my number with the neighbor. Found another three window and neighbor said her dad jist died and she wouldn't sell it. I found all these trucks within a 1 mile radius. There was this other three window left my number at the door, awesome condition. I really want a 5 window but the way things are going it looks like I won't find anything. Feel like calling it quits....o and as I was driving I turn right and in the middle of the street ... Two guys pushing a 54 three window into the yard... Literally in the middle of the street I almost went in my pants! Owner is a 77 year old man restoring it for his grand son...

Re: Feel like giving up
My experience is stuff falls in your lap when you least expect it. My last car, I was thinking about getting some mid sixties Rambler for a daily driver. I looked a little in Craigslist and what not, it was just there in my head, no real searching. One day I am driving to the hardware store a few blocks away and there was a garage sale with a 59 Rambler American in the driveway. I stopped, it was cheap, it's been my daily driver for the past three years.
Just sit back and relax, relax. Don't go and get something you will regret just because it's available and you are hard up. You may even want to get something that isn't perfect for you but the rest of the picture is. For instance, you want a five window, you could find a REALLY nice three window and make it a five window. That's much better than buying a rough rusted out five window JUST BECAUSE it's a five window. Another thought is you find just a five window cab and frame with the rest missing, get it if it's a nice cab, then collect all the rest of the parts. My brother built a killer vintage Harley once starting with just the engine cases. Heck, my truck, it's a collection of nearly every panel coming from a different place! The only two panels from the same truck are the two front fenders and I think the two rear fenders as I remember. EVERY other panel on the truck including the cab came from another truck, all four pieces of the bed came from different trucks! Relax, sit back, and something will fall in your lap. Just put the feelers out, don't stop searching but don't get all wound up over it. Brian

Re: Feel like giving up
Yup, it seemed like EVERY truck I went to see was 2 hours away (at least), falling to pieces and overpriced...
And the funniest thing was that I almost didn't call the guy who sold me his truck, because the deal seemed too good Keep at it- you will find the right one! |

no idea what quality of work the po has done and way over priced for a basket case another poor soul that lost interest in a project that had way too much in it that doesn't mean you should pay for his mistakes, but you can always make an offer for a parts truck

Re: Feel like giving up
Yea thanks for the reply guys, no sense in getting worked up I guess. That trucks on Craig's it's actually here in Tucson. Talked to the guy, he won't budge. That truck has been on Craig's for a long time. The engine and transmission are not rebuilt so couldn't sell them easy. Way over priced. He said he would let it go for 4 grand... Ouch.

Post an , in search of, add on CL. And if you are on any facebook swapmeet groups put one there too.
Be specific though because you are likely to get every tom dick and harry with a "I think its a chevy but i'm not sure" responding to your add. |

Re: Feel like giving up
The main thing is researching what it is you want in a truck to start(original & stock or custom with geegaws)with and having the cash on hand to pounce, if you run into it.

Re: Feel like giving up
what is your budget? if you are trying to find a 5 window under 1500, not saying you are, but there may be some competition for those trucks.

Re: Feel like giving up
It just depends on the condition of the truck I guess.

well thats about as neatly a way of not answering the question as I have seen, but like woogeroo said, when you see one, pounce.

To me there is nothing more exciting than shopping for a project. After that the real work begins.... I think Meter Swingers advice will give you the best odds at landing something your after.
