Rear view mirror ambient air temp sensor

I just bought an 04 2500 with a cracked inside rearview mirror. Picked up another at the junkyard and unplugged mine to test the new one is compatable. I left the yard without plugging it back in since I was about to swap it out. The truck went into limp mode I think. Display said reduced engine power and I can verify that is 100 percent correct. I got to the parts store, had them read the code and it showed knock sensor, tps/throttle sensor. At this point I asked if the mirror could have any effect since the problem occured after unplugging mirror. The guys said yeah there's an ambient air temp sensor in there. This mirror has no temp display, but maybe they're onto something since connecting the mirror fixed the problem. I had them clear the code and all is well. I don't know if this is legit. What do you guys think?

Re: Rear view mirror ambient air temp sensor

It may not have a temp display ,but it does have a temp sensor. I think most all do I have torn down maybe 50 or 60 in the front and it is right there on the core support. The mirror all I have seen do have the pins for the temp weather they have the display on the mirror or not. What would it hurt them to add that? cost what? 45cents? Jim

Re: Rear view mirror ambient air temp sensor

The Temp display is a trim level item, Has nothing to do with engine management....If fact the ECM has its own intake air temp sensor.

When you build hundreds of tousands of trucks......45 cents adds up.

Well, I do appreciate the confirmation. It sounded a little suspect to me. I might unplug my brother's mirror and see if he turns three shades of red!
