Re: Thanks California and CARB

When catalytic converters became a mandated fact, I resisted (for various reasons), until my resistance was eventually steamrollered by realities.

EVs reminded me of that distant memory. I wonder how long I can resist EVs. Longer than cats, for sure. Maybe even until I age out. Time will tell.

Angry Re: Thanks California and CARB

I work in a repair shop (going on 40 years) that does smogs and exhaust and the laws have changed so much in that time, we used to keep a half dozen catalytic converters in stock and could cover 90% of the vehicles on the road, now we don't keep any in stock since there are thousands of part numbers out there. all CARB certified converters have a part number AND an E.O # that must match the engine family/test group number to be legal for installation and when a smog is due the technician has to look up the numbers on a state data base to verify it matches that particular vehicle. and don't forget the state withdraws numbers constantly so if the customer doesn't have a receipt that shows it was installed prior to that number being withdrawn the vehicle fails the smog test and has to buy a new "legal" converter. it is a cluster f*&k.

Re: Thanks California and CARB

Catalytic converters and lead free fuel are some of the main reasons we can breathe somewhat clean air today.

State of Jefferson is a never gonna happen. :P

I’ve driven a Tesla duel Motor and I have to say it was Fast and I liked the Full Power Take off. BUT I would never have one (ok ok I do have an electric mini bike for the Grandkids)
My biggest concern is what are they going to charge for getting ride of dead batteries, you can bet it will be a LOT and New Batteries are More than a LOT
I’m watching the progress on Hydrogen Engines, very interesting

This is true. A few years ago Californians raised well over the minimum signatures to get a 3-way state split on the ballot, but the state didn't put it on the ballot anyway.

The green energy scam. Thousands of inventions that could clean our planet have been suppressed.

Everything I stated was true. Even if if it got on the ballot it would never pass a statewide vote, its just a pipe dream.

I was sincerely agreeing.

My point was it won’t even make it to a ballot, even if legally it’s required to.

Can we "Carpool" as I don't think I can afford the gas?

The wife and I used to go out to eat lunch or dinner about once a week just because, but now lunch is $30-$40 for the both of us...Ouch!! Not so much anymore maybe once a month.

Now we have to add in more gas tax which has the trickle down effect to everything. But bottom line is I am old enough that I will not ever own an electric automobile, my golf cart I run around the place with is as close as I'll ever get.

Re: Thanks California and CARB

Loosely related to the EV discussion -- okay, very loosely related -- my acceptance of battery-powered tools has expanded again. Years ago I got a cordless Milwaukee drill and have been very impressed with it. Last year I bought an EGO cordless string trimmer. I like it enough that when my gas mower decided it didn't want to keep gas inside its tank, I looked into EGO mowers and brought one home this morning. Unpacked it but haven't tried it yet.

Tools are a far cry from vehicles though, and I still don't see a battery-powered car or truck in my future.

Re: Thanks California and CARB

For some a EV will make sense. But having said that the juice to recharge them doesn't come current bushes. I think the hybrids make much more sense. Electric for short trips and gas for longer distance trip.
Just FYI Hertz just took in the shorts to the tune of 500 million with all the EV's they bought and no one wanted to rent. They are selling them off at a huge discount.
