modern looking step beds - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Have you guys noticed all the modern step beds going on 67-72 trucks. They look well and the lines match up but like someone said in another post the wheel opening on the bed doesnt match the opening on the front. But i have found a truck that has that little step on the front like a modern bed has but it is an original bed. How hard would it be to make this piece or could you get it off of a newer step bed truck.

here is the pic of the truck i found. do you think it would be hard to make?

The guy that did that truck took cab corners and flipped them around and used that to build those steps. Looks sweet but would take some crafty work to do it. He also lengthened the entire cab 6" by cutting right down the middle of the doors and cab, pretty dang trick.

I'm really liking the look of that... Putting a 67-72 wheel well into a 88+ stepper bed, and having the step match the cab's body line...

i was thinking about the cab corner thing. It wouldn't be too hard to make it i dont think. you could take the cab corner and use a doorskin to make the rest of the step that goes back to the fender, that way it already has the correct lines and shape, and just put a rounded edge on a piece of metal to make the top.
of course it would never be that easy because as usual i would end up screwing something up.

actually, that is Mike Hall's truck. He started with a bed from a 94 pickup and fabbed the rest by hand. it took him about 10 years to build that truck...it is probably the most beutiful 67-72 i have ever had the chance to see. he is a great craftsman. and like said above, he stretched the cab and doors and dash so it would be to scale...a total of 6 inches. amazing

moved the gas tank, shaved everthing, lights in rear roll pan, the modern sport power rear veiw mirrors, it's got air bag suspension...the truck is just real real slick...the list is endless, i'm sure i've only scraped the surface

His truck was my inspiration for buying one of these bad boys. I dont have the $ or the skils to attempt a stepside like that so i went with a 67swb. I'd love to find out how he fabbed the grill if anyone has any info on it?

He layed the hood back! holy shait! and the grill looks like a Camaro....just sexy.... I do think those mirrors just don't look right though
